So okay, I’m pretty sure that Netflix probably wanted me to write about holiday movies this month, and also probably before Christmas. And I really did mean to except that one night I got on twitter and then something magical happened and I am going to write about that instead.
So last month I mentioned that Netflix had all of the episodes of The Baby Sitters Club available for streaming. And about how I was obsessed with the BSC when I was a kid, so much so that my friend Paige would leave the telephone sitting next to her own television while these episodes were on and I would listen to them OVER THE PHONE because I did not have cable. That is hardcore fangirling, y’all. I basically INVENTED fangirling.
So one night when Jeff had to work late, I decided to watch an episode of The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix. And I decided to live-tweet my way through it because #DibblyFresh is a way better hashtag than #HasJustineLandedYet. True story, morning glory. Like, Kristy Thomas, I thought this was a Great Idea.
What I was not expecting was to be joined by a ton of internet friends who were all “WHERE ARE YOU WATCHING THIS?! TELL ME HOW I CAN ALSO WATCH THIS RAT NAO!” This is why I love y’all, because who else would join me in an all-night marathon of Baby-Sitters Club episodes from the nineties? (Spoiler alert: Not my husband.)
I had a lot to say about these episodes:
And then this happened and I was speechless:
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SPENT YOUR CHILDHOOD WATCHING THE BABYSITTERS CLUB EPISODES OVER THE TELEPHONE.
You have NO IDEA that ZACH BRAFF played Dawn Schafer’s love interest in an episode about saving the trees! This is vital information, y’all!
I ended up staying awake until well past midnight watching every single episode in a marathon viewing.
I have no regrets.
I did actually watch a lot of holiday movies on Netflix, mostly children’s specials such as Mickey Mouse’s Magical Christmas because I have a three year old who walked in as I was scrolling through holiday picks and yelled “MICKEY MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUSE!” Oh, and Super Why’s Night Before Christmas. Obviously. But I also watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. For the first time ever.
I know, I really am unsure how I made it some thirty years on this planet without ever seeing that movie. I mean, every single year I hear people make references to how certain houses “look like the Griswolds” and I’ve just been nodding my head like I totally knew what they were talking about even though I didn’t. That is basically my MO in life.
(I realize this is probably totally unprofessional of me and so I am going to direct you to Crystal’s post about saving money with Netflix because for one thing, it’s really informative because I had no idea the savings added up to so much. And for another, let’s just be honest about the fact that it’s a way better post than anything I would have written anyhow. My passion is for Kid Kits.)
Disclosure: I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team, which means that once a month I write a post about what I am watching on Netflix and they comp my streaming service. I enjoy this arrangement a lot since we are Netflix fans and were paying for the service previously. I am not sure if Netflix enjoys this arrangement or not given that I have now written two posts dedicated to my love of The Baby-Sitters Club, which is presumably not what they anticipated when asking a 30 year old woman to share about her love of Netflix. But the other thing I watched this month was Samantha: An American Girl Holiday, and by American Girl I definitely do mean the American Girl Doll. I watched an American Girl Doll movie. By myself. On Netflix. It was actually really good and starred the girl who was in My Sister’s Keeper.
