Tide asked me to put together an outfit that could be styled 3 different ways in homage to their 3-in-1 Tide Pods and I thought that sounded like a fun challenge until I realized that there is a reason I am not a fashion blogger and that reason is because remember how I sort of accidentally-on-purpose donated all my clothes last year? I looked in my closet and realized I am working with a very limited wardrobe here, people. And also because I look awkward in selfies.

This striped shirt was in my latest Stitch Fix box and I’ve been wearing it often so I figured that it was a good real-life glimpse at what I typically wear on the days I don’t just exchange my pajama pants for yoga pants. It’s easy-casual with skinny jeans and some red flats. For Inauguration Day I paired it with my red skinny jeans and silver ballet flats. I was very patriotic and also very cold, which is why I forgot that probably I should have taken off my jacket for a picture as I was running out the door. Finally, for dressy date night, I tucked it into a high-waisted skirt and slipped into some Princess Kate-esque heels. And I wore my denim jacket again because despite the fact that my husband totally hates it, I love that denim jacket and shall not be parted from it.
My husband grew up in a Tide household when it came to laundry and I suppose there is something nostalgic about it for him, because any time I try to use a coupon to switch brands he’s all “Hey! My clothes smell weird. They don’t smell like Tide!” and granted, that might have something to do with the fact that I accidentally purchased something called “Lavender Fields Scent” but still. So basically I agreed to pop in a whole new kind of clean with Tide Pods because they offered to send me the 3-in-1 Tide Pods to try out and I knew that would A) save me some money on buying detergent this month and we all know how I love a good freebie, and B) impress my husband who is very attached to his Tide detergent. Okay and also because they offered to give away a $100 Visa Gift Card to one of my readers and I was like Holla! Because one time I won a blog sweepstakes like this and it was SO EXCITING.
I was a little unsure about using the Tide Pods because of my well-documented OCD and the fact that for practically my entire life, doing laundry has involved me pouring various liquids into various compartments in the washing machine. And these you just toss in with your clothes all willy-nilly like; they’re the only 3-chamber unit dose on the market.
They are supposed to utilize the 3 different chambers to clean, brighten and fight stains so for my test load of laundry I washed the kitchen towels and Scarlette’s bibs. Because the true test of a stain-fighting detergent is seeing if it can stand up to my two-year-old at meal time. Especially because of Scarlette’s wrist issues, which mean that we are far from mastering our utensils over here and end up wearing most anything we try to get from bowl to mouth by means of a spoon. And by “we,” I do mean we because somehow that child manages to cover me in food even when I’m across the room from her.
I thought they worked great; her white bibs were definitely stain-free and super clean. Just one removes more stains than 6 caps of the liquid bargain brand. (Based on stain removal performance of one pac of Tide Pods vs. 6 doses of the leading liquid bargain brand base variant in a standard top loading machine.) (Also, why do people even make white bibs?!) Then my husband took over, because he does all his own laundry (I KNOW, RIGHT?!) and when we were folding his clothes he kept sticking his face in the warm laundry and saying “MMMMM, TIDE!” so there is that.
(P.S. Because the Tide Pods are so cute and brightly colored and could maybe look like candy to a little kid, we placed them in a clasp-lid jar on a high shelf in our laundry room just to be on the safe side. Now they look all fancy and we know that Miss S is safe from trying to eat them, unlike that time she took a bite out of my deodorant and I had to call poison control. Childproofing is important, y’all.) Pop In. Stand Out.
