In December J and I celebrated 7 years of marriage. Except that we didn’t actually celebrate because he was working all sorts of crazy hours and between that and the holidays there was not a single day in that month for us to steal away for a date. And in the months that followed his busy work schedule plus a couple of crazy snowstorms kept him stuck out of town (and me going a little stir-crazy with cabin fever.)
So when I was offered the chance for a 4 day, 3 night stay at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort I was obviously excited. But when J mentioned that he had a few comp days due to the aforementioned busy schedule and that maybe we could go away just the two of us, I was extra excited. Like, Jessie Spano excited. Goodbye winter, hello belated anniversary celebration at the beach.
Basically the most romantic way to celebrate a seven year anniversary is with sunsets like this
Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort Accommodations: Westwinds
We stayed in the Westwinds and I would highly recommend it. It is right on the beach so not only was it a short walk to the waves but our view was incredible. I left the balcony doors open almost the entire time we were indoors because I love the smell and sound of the ocean. The pool was heated and I spent a ridiculous amount of time in the hot tub, once my husband taught me how to turn the jets on. How did I make it to thirty without knowing how hot tubs worked?
One of my friends stayed in the Luau and after walking over to visit her I determined that it was not the accommodations for me. It was really nice but the front wall of the living area was all glass. That’s when I discovered that my fear of heights kicks in when I’m standing near a flat glass wall on the 11th floor of a hotel. I seriously do not even understand how this fear of heights thing works, y’all. I mean, that makes no sense. Our room in the Westwinds was on the the fourth floor with a balcony and that was just right for me, we had a beautiful view and no vertigo!
Our unit had a full kitchen which was great because we stopped at the grocery store just down the road and stocked up on breakfast and lunch food. We chose to splurge on dinners out but it saved us a good bit to be able to cook together. It was a one bedroom unit but the living room housed a sofa bed – I liked this because I think if my 3 best girlfriends and I vacationed together we could definitely split the cost of a one bedroom and enjoy the luxury but still be mindful of our budgets. Here is a little video walking through the condo. Please enjoy my very professional video making skills. And by “very professional” I mean “I took this on my phone.”
It was such a wonderful trip, we really enjoyed the convenience of having so many activity and dining choices right in the resort so tomorrow I’ll post more about our favorite things to do there. Happy seven years to us!
Disclosure: I was provided with free accommodations in exchange for sharing my honest opinion about this little getaway, all words + photos are my own.
