As I mentioned here, J and I celebrated seven years of marriage with a stay at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort after I was invited to visit and write about it. Basically we want to move there and drink iced tea on the beach every day. Okay, I want to drink iced tea. Apparently that’s too girly for my husband or something.
Anyhow, one of our favorite things about the resort was that we had access to so many different dining and activity options within walking/biking/tram-riding distance of our condo so I wanted to give you a little run-down of what we did and what we liked. Also, sometimes when you’ve been married for seven years you accidentally dress like twins. It actually happens more often than you would think.
We had dinner at the Marina Bar and Grill mostly because I saw that they were having live music and I love guys with guitars who sing to me while I eat seafood. I mean, who doesn’t. I also enjoy dinners at sunset while sitting on the dock of the bay. Especially when said guy with guitar sings SITTIN’ ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY. Quintessential beach trip moment, y’all. Obviously I instagrammed that.
There is a little pedestrian village called Bayside Wharf in the resort that houses a ton of cafes and restaurants as well as shops and family friendly activities such as carnival games, carousels and ziplines. We were planning on ziplining over the lagoon, and by “we” I mean “my husband” because we all know that I do not do things that involve being suspended above bodies of water but they were closed by the time we arrived.
We took some pictures at the “fountain of youth” and I practiced getting perfect sunflare because of how I am a blogger and that is how we do.
One of our good friends lives just outside of Destin and so he joined us for dinner at Graffiti which was admittedly pricey and definitely our splurge meal of the trip but incredible food. It was my first time having fresh grouper, which they put some sort of maple syrup on and something else (I don’t really know because they had me at maple syrup) and the whole meal was fantastic. I took a few pictures but forgot to use a flash because apparently “sunflare” took up all of the photography space in my brain.
My number one recommendation in Bayside Village is a little coffee shop called Cafe Soleil where we got lattes, namely a raspberry cheesecake latte that was the best latte that I have ever had. I was a barista in college, y’all. I have had my fair share of lattes. Literally, THE best latte I have ever had. It was a bit chilly the day we got in so we grabbed some lattes and walked along the pier and talked about selling everything we own and moving to the beach because the salt air does that to you, I think.
We also spent a good bit of time exploring Joelee Island, which was mostly secluded. They had some swings set up around the island on the beach and so we sat on the swings and talked about all of our hopes and dreams and selling everything we own and moving to the beach. It’s a problem. Then I climbed a treehouse and we tried to catch crabs.
On Saturday we went to The Raven golf course because my husband is a man who loves to golf. I’m also very good at golf if by golfing you mean the miniature sort. He said that it was one of the nicest courses that he has ever played on and that I wasn’t allowed to tell the internet what he hit on the back nine.
We had an amazing time and people are totally right when they tell you how important it is for your relationship to get away without your children for a little bit to reconnect and focus on your marriage. The first couple of years for us were so fraught with fear from all of the medical issues we had with Scarlette that the thought of being away was fairly terrifying for me. (Plus, prematurity basically means you’re probably going to be too broke to take a vacation even when your baby is out of the woods.) I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to get away and so thankful that we have such amazing family who love our daughter and took on our whirlwind of three year old to afford us the time away.
Disclosure: Our stay was provided by Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, all opinions are my own. They actually only asked me to write one post, which I already did, but we loved it so much that I wanted to share a little bit more about what we did while we were there. xoxo
