We are giving preschool another shot this fall so I took Scarlette shopping for back to school clothes. Turns out that when faced with a wall of clearance pajamas, Scarlette will break free of your hand, run off screaming like a banshee and then SWAN DIVE into the racks while giggling hysterically. Honestly, I am not sure why I did not anticipate that scenario. It is possible that we may have done a couple of time outs in the middle of Carter’s. And by that I mean one for her and one for me.
Afterwards I did a little photoshoot of her in her new outfits and cracked up at these outtakes when I was editing them. I was wearing my glasses and so she insisted on wearing her glasses, which are a cheap pair of reading glasses with the frames punched out. Then she said “Look Bro, YOU wear glasses, I wear glasses…” because she has been quoting the movie Turbo non-stop ever since I took her to see it.
Also, any time Scarlette walks past a mirror she stops and growls at herself. I put a mirror on one side of the backdrop to reflect some light because it was really dark in the house and so the majority of my pictures ended up being of Scarlette making faces at herself. Because Scarlette thinks Scarlette is hilarious. I really should have anticipated that as well.
It has been raining here all week which meant that I couldn’t get outside to take pictures so I pulled out this paper photo backdrop. I ordered it on amazon last month because someone recommended it to me and it was pretty inexpensive. I really love it. Honestly, for the price I wish I had ordered the set of four patterns. It is really big so I actually cut it down to 8 feet and 4 feet so that I could use it for different set-ups. I just hang it on the wall with these removable poster strips. I don’t use a frame with clamps or anything like that, so it’s super simple to put up and take down.
Then I took the Minted banner that we used for Scarlette’s birthday party and strung it across the backdrop. It actually says her name on the other side but I just used the patterned side for this.
Here is what it looks like when I step back a little:
(The first photo is from the Sole Hope party I held, which I have not even posted pictures of yet because clearly I am on top of things over here. I just added some tissue paper flowers that were left over from Scarlette’s birthday party.)
Since these were outtakes I played around a bit more with the photoediting but I typically use Florabella actions (classic workflow & muse) and then I used the Light Leak action from A Beautiful Mess. (Unfortunately, I don’t recommend the actions from A Beautiful Mess, I was pretty disappointed in the quality.)
The whole project was really easy to do and pushed me to practice shooting indoors, because I am completely uncomfortable with my camera if I am not outside. Plus, it was just really fun to turn on some music and take a lot of pictures of Scarlette. Her playlist requests were as follows: Summertime Sadness, Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car, specifically the Boyce Avenue cover, and Whoa That Snail Is Fast. Seriously. I love this kid.
