Welcome to Kayla Aimee Writes!
I’m the girl behind the blog and I know you’re probably super surprised to find out that my name is Kayla Aimee. I am very clever at naming things, obviously.
I’m a sweet-tea loving southern girl, a micro-preemie mama, and the author of the books Anchored: Finding Hope in the Unexpected, and In Bloom: Trading Restless Insecurity for Abiding Confidence. I’m passionate about encouraging women to live their dreams, laugh freely, and love boldly – especially when it comes to loving themselves.
Here is everything you never knew you wanted to know about me:
In West Philadelphia born and raised, on a playground is where I spent most of my days, chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool and all shooting some b-ball outside of the school. No wait, that wasn’t me. That was the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
My childhood was not so much “all cool” so much as it was “incredibly awkward.” Here is a photo of me at age 8. You. Are. Welcome.
The heart of my story centers on my journey to motherhood, the one in which I found myself joyfully pregnant after years of infertility only to then give birth unexpectedly at just 25 weeks. We named her Scarlette and she weighed one pound, eight ounces.
She was thirty days old before I was allowed to hold her and it was most decidedly not what I expected when I was expecting. I didn’t expect the 156 day NICU stay or the long term quarantine at home or that my motherhood would involve learning to force down a feeding tube and copious amounts of therapy –but I found grace and hope in the most unexpected of places. And more than anything, I found the one thing I’d been missing: my voice.
I discovered that love moves you to do wildly audacious things. That I was so much more than the lies I had believed about myself since those playground days. And that there was a blueprint to replacing your inner critic with steadfast truths of scriptural affirmation.
And in embracing who God made me to be, I discovered my faith and my confidence could flourish.
I wrote some books about motherhood and finding your anchor when you feel hopeless and trading restless insecurity for an abiding confidence. They are the perfect blend of grace and humor that will lift your spirits and fill your day with hope and laughter. Some people have called my writing “vulnerable, accessible, and warmly humorous” but I mean, don’t let reviews from the prestigious Publisher’s Weekly sway you or anything 😉
(Just kidding. TOTALLY LET IT SWAY YOU. I sincerely hope you love reading my books as much as I love writing them!)
Today Scarlette is a happy, healthy, and um, precocious nine year old who never fails to make us laugh with her shenanigans (check out my #stuffscarlettesays series if you need a serious giggle today!) and we’ve been blessed with a baby boy who has wild curls and a smile that has me wrapped around his little finger.
Thanks for stopping by, it means so much to me that you took the time to invest in our lives by reading my words.
