Last week I turned in the final portion of my book, which happened to be the acknowledgements section. I labored over those six hundred words and I may or may not have unironically thanked Ann M. Martin because I am dibbly fresh.
So yesterday I open a Monday morning email from my editor and it said “Funny thing, this attachment that you sent is not actually the acknowledgements but instead a yummy looking list of soup recipes.”
And I was all, “No, I MEANT to acknowledge soup. Soup has been crucial to me in my creative process and I never could have written an entire manuscript without it.”
And then I sent over the actual acknowledgement page and wondered how I ever managed to land a book deal on account of how I am obviously incredibly professional.
(Speaking of soup, here is my favorite cold-weather soup recipe – a copycat of Zuppa Toscana that my friend Florica taught me how to make several years ago. I think of her whenever I make it, which is often in the winter.)
