I have the best story about our Christmas cards this year. Of course I do.
I keep those sparkly silver boxes under our Christmas tree as decoration and after I set this little backdrop up I looked around and thought to myself “Self, those would be cute for Christmas pictures.” Obviously I am very good at things like “advance planning.” So I handed Scarlette a box to pose with. I wanted to get some cute expressions from her so I asked “Hey Scarlette? What do you think might be in that box?”
And that’s when she put her finger to her cheek and said “Hmmm, pwobably a party hat.”
And I thought “Well, that was quite the odd thing to assume.” So I said “I don’t think there will be a party hat inside honey.” And she replied “Actually I fink dere will be a red party hat wif SPARKLES on it!”
Then I said “Maybe we should open the box and see what it is inside!” And then I realized that I had not put anything in the box on account of my lack of advance planning and fretted that this whole little photoshoot was about to go downhill really quickly because not only was there not going to be a red, sparkly party hat inside but the box was going to be totally empty.
So I said “Wait just a minute!” thinking that I would stealthily stick an M&M in the box or something so that I wasn’t a horrible mother who taunted her kid with an empty Christmas present and all.
And that’s when Scarlette whipped off the top of the box and this happened:
And she said “SEE! DERE IS A RED SPARKLY PARTY HAT IN DIS BOX!”
Apparently she had at some point entirely unbeknownst to me filled all of my empty decorative boxes with random objects, including a sparkly red Santa hat.
And that just made that mischievous little face even better because she totally KNEW that I thought the box was empty and that she had hidden a hat inside.
So then I gave her a peppermint sucker because it filled my day with Christmas cheer and all.
And then I put that picture on the very front of our Christmas cards this year, because it is so very Scarlette and because she truly does keep us laughing all the way.
Thanks for sharing in our laughter and joy this year! Merry Christmas, friends! ♥
