I meant to post this before the holidays were over but we got a bit waylaid by illness over here. This stuff that is going around is no joke, y’all. I’m seriously contemplating wearing some sort of hazmat suit the next time I go in public to avoid catching it again.
This is the craft that we made for our MOPS Christmas Party this year! We made this super simple DIY christmas card display with cute clothespins to clip the cards on with.
It is also very sparkly. I have a thing for glitter. I’m pretty sure that our MOPS moms would appreciate me choosing non-glittery crafts for 2015 on account of how we tend to leave most of our MOPS meetings looking like we’re straight out of a twilight novel due to my slight glitter obsession. It’s a problem.
But these were actually not at all messy because Yahoo! asked me to make a glittery holiday project inspired by their article Little Bits Of Bling: 11 Glitter Crafts Without The Mess. This was something I could totally get on board with, unlike that time they asked me to put my jeans in the freezer. I think that #YahooDIY is definitely more in my wheelhouse.
Plus, I really love the word bling. I’m over here all “Every time I get a Christmas card BLING BLING.”
To keep things ultra sparkly and minimally messy I used glitter ribbon and glitter tape as mentioned in the article. I just cut a yard of ribbon to use as my hanging strip. Then I cut about a 5 inch strip and made a circle out of it, taping it together in the back. I cut a smaller strip (maybe 2.5-3 inches) and looped that around the center of the circle and taped it down, which flattened it into a bow shape. Then I tacked it to the wall. I ended up making a few of these because we had a lot of cards to display! I’ve also seen people wrap them around their kitchen cabinets, which is super cute. Scarlette made it her “job” to add the new cards to our display whenever we checked the mail.
For the clips I bought little wooden stars and we coated them in Martha Stewart Glitter Glue – this is my hands-down go-to glue for glittering, it really keeps the glitter from falling off! Then we alternated attaching them to large and small clothespins using Terrifically Tacky Tape. We also used glitter tape that I found in the article and some smaller glitter ribbon to wrap around some of the large clothespins.
I let Scarlette make a lot of the glitter stars for ours at home since it was such an easy project and because she has an affinity for glitter. She gets it from her mama.
Now that we are in the process of taking down the Christmas decorations we recycled the clothespins to hold Scarlette’s many art projects. Or as she likes to call them “My masterpieces.”
I am planning to make some more so that we can change them out seasonally, hearts for Valentine’s Day, shamrocks for Saint Patrick’s day, etc. Scarlette really enjoyed it and she takes a lot of pride in hanging up her artwork so I think that will be fun for her.
How do you display your Christmas cards? I love seeing the faces of all of our friends and family hanging on our walls this time of year!
