So we finally got around to giving the master bedroom a much-needed makeover. Actually, in the past month I have repainted and rearranged all three bedrooms in our house. I like to call this flu-season induced frenzy of redecorating “cabin fever.”
(And also Target and Pottery Barn are having major sales in their home and bedding departments.)
(I had our initials monogrammed on our new bedding. I am very southern.)
We got a new mattress as part of a blog partnership (more on that another day) and as I was chatting with their business development director about everything he offered to upgrade us to a king sized mattress. At first I said no because that would mean buying all new bedding, even though I did kind of want all new bedding. But my husband was like “YES WE DO WANT A KING SIZED MATTRESS” because apparently I kick him in my sleep. Allegedly. After spending the past eight years sharing a full/queen sized bed, it’s basically like I am sleeping on my own island now. The only slight drawback was that the first night I woke up in the middle of the night freezing cold due to lack of body heat.
(J says it was because we didn’t have any covers to fit the new bed yet. Potato, potahto.)
The problem is, since we went with a king-sized bed that meant our old four poster bedframe didn’t fit anymore and now I can’t decide what to do with the space above the bed. ADVISE ME, Y’ALL. ‘Cause I’ve got a blank space, baby.
I liked the idea of a mirror because the room is very small and I want to make it look bigger. On the other hand, I also have a large mirror on the dresser opposite of the bed and since there is also one propped up against the wall I am not sure if one more mirror might look less “breezy” and more “CARNIVAL FUN HOUSE.”
(And the bookshelf has to stay because J likes having a bookshelf on his side of the bed rather than a nightstand and there isn’t enough space to put the dresser on his side.)
I also like the idea of a freestanding headboard, like this one or this one. I keep thinking to myself “Self, you could totally upholster your own headboard and add nailhead trim.” But then I think that I might be doing that thing where I overestimate my abilities of craftiness. Have any of y’all attempted to make your own? Is it is easy as it looks? Because sometimes Pinterest lies, y’all.
And I also thought about maybe doing a giant oversized canvas because I saw the second one in Elise’s make29 shop and loved it, although I was too late to snag it. My other issue is that I am slightly neurotic and never hang things above beds because I am afraid of them falling off the wall and shattering on me in the middle of the night. I am also afraid of rollercoasters, bridges over water and stepping on sidewalk grates. It’s super fun to be friends with me.
Anyhow, I’m happy with how the space is coming together because my goal is for us to have a more grown-up, peaceful bedroom to retreat to. I love the shade of blue (it’s called Lucky Charm by Clark + Kensington) with the all-white bedding. I went with white because the room is small and also because I am a big fan of stuff I can bleach to keep clean.
(I am also a big fan of “letting the wrinkles fall out naturally.” Obviously I did not iron any of this stuff. )
But I need a little direction on the whole blank wall issue. What would you do?
