One of the best, totally random things that we happen to own is a tiny portable helium tank. My mother bought it for us when we wanted to get balloons for Scarlette’s birthday party and discovered that due to a helium shortage it was going to cost a fortune for just a few balloons. Then she found this mini helium tank at Target for $25 and it’s been so fun to have because Scarlette LOVES balloons. We had plenty of helium leftover after the party so sometimes I randomly surprise her by having a few tied to her door when she wakes up in the morning.
I saw these heart balloons in the dollar spot at Target recently and decided to do a little Valentine’s Day photoshoot because my friend Casie had sent me this sweet little flutter-back dress for Scarlette.
Casie and I have been friends since elementary school – in fact, somewhere along the back gym field is a time capsule that we buried there when we were nine. I have since forgotten the exact location of said time capsule which is unfortunate because I would really love to know what is in there.
(Probably pictures of Jonathan Taylor Thomas torn out of Tiger Beat, an Ace of Base cassette tape, and a handful of Garbage Pail Kids stickers. We were 90’s kids.)
She has since opened her own online children’s boutique called Pearls and Piggytails and it’s where I order all of Scarlette’s hairbows from (because I love cute & free shipping, which has for all US orders.) And also this dress, which by the way, is a size 2T and still a little big on her. Scarlette is one tiny little four year old, y’all. Related: she would not agree to wear her nice shoes and instead insisted on wearing her glitter shoes that literally have holes in them. This is me picking my battles, people.
Anyhow, every time I use one of the faux-wood backdrops I get a lot of questions about it so I thought I’d share a behind the scenes peek at what I do!
How To Make An Easy DIY Valentine’s Day Photo Backdrop
(some links are affiliates) I use these inexpensive paper backdrops and then I literally either attach them to the wall (here is how I attach them without tape or tacks) or I hang them from the ceiling with ribbon, like shown below. It honestly just depends on what time of day I want to take pictures. I always shoot next to a window or open door so where I hang the backdrop depends on where the light is coming in. This is is my super professional setup:
And then I just use paper garlands (I picked up this chalkboard heart garland at Target and then just wrote LOVE on it with a piece of chalk) or twinkle lights draped over the backdrop to match whatever holiday I’m taking pictures for. I’m going to print these out wallet size and attach them to our store bought valentines for her class party and call it crafty 🙂
It’s so easy to do and an inexpensive way to take fun and festive photos! Of course, I like any excuse to take pictures of this sassy girl.
