I am not like most scrapbookers. I don't get my inspiration from kitchy catalogues or home decor magazines. I don't keep an inspiration journal. I don't see displays at the mall and file them away in my mind for future use on a page. Although I love color and movement and texture, I am very rarely visually inspired to scrapbook.
For me, scrapbooking is more cathartic. It's about taking an idea or feeling that I have an translating it into something tactile. I feel a huge connection to my pages because I put such emotion into each one. I do focus on design to bring the piece together, but the overall goal for me is to translate what I am feeling into a visual piece. Other people probably don't see that in my pages, but I look at them and remember. I remember the way you go to the beach and the smell of the salt air fills you with memories of your first summer romance. That's my goal, to tie those memories down so that maybe when I'm old and searching for them, I'll be able to find them in the pages.
I wrote more in depth about this here.
