I felt like it would be fun to bring back the series where I post random information about myself because I really love to read those on other people’s websites. I used to do it on Fridays, like clockwork, and it had a nice title full of alliteration and everything except I can’t keep that kind of commitment anymore because of how I am currently living in a very beautiful season of chaos.
In any case, please tell me if you share any of these quirks with me so that I can feel all warm and fuzzy about it.
1) I have to read everything from the bottom up. I prefer to start my magazines at the end and if I need to scroll through a list of choices on my phone or online I always start at at the bottom and scroll up instead of scrolling down in order. I don’t know why this is but it makes me feel itchy to read anything online, especially lists, from 1-10 instead of 10-1.
2) I love Buddy Holly. When I was sixteen I saw The Buddy Holly Story in London’s Strand Theater and it was one of the best musicals that I have ever seen. I fell completely in love with Buddy Holly’s music. The other day Scarlette came in my office and asked “Mommy? Can we listen to your happy music?” And once I figured out that she meant my Buddy Holly album I thought to myself “Yes, Buddy Holly IS my happy music.” The greatest hits album never fails to cheer me up.
For some reason, this fact always surprises people about me. I am assuming that has to do with the fact that it causes a bit of cognitive dissonance given that I am also well known for my devotion to Taylor Swift.
3) My new thing is robes. I am crazy about pretty robes. I want to just wear soft, pretty robes and walk around in them all day like I’m on a vintage movie set. This makes me feel very grown up and also it seems more intentional than wearing pajamas all day. Like yes, okay, so I’m not dressed but I’m wearing this robe.
4) One of my biggest pet peeves is when people want to read long things out loud to me. Sometimes people who are sitting next to me read entire emails or articles on the web to me and then I can not concentrate on what it is they want me to know because I’m am so distracted by my blind hatred of being read to.
Perhaps this is why I taught myself to read as a very small child, on account of bothered I am by read aloud to. This scenario used to occur all the time when I worked in an office and I always wanted to be like “Please just give me that piece of paper to read silently to myself, for the love.”
5) I love reptiles. I once had an iguana for a pet and I would walk around the house while he sat on my head. He was about 6 feet long and I have never topped 5 feet as an adult so as a tiny child his tail would just trail behind me as I paraded around the house wearing him like a hat.
I personally would love to have a lizard in my house right now but my husband feels as though lizards are not so much “pets” as “creatures he prefers never to be near even in nature.”
And in other random news:
– I am going to be leading a session at The Influence Conference in September. I’m really excited about it and would love to know if any of y’all are going so that we can make plans to meet in person!
– Our master bathroom makeover was featured on Wayfair if you want to check it out. We went from Pepto-Bismol pink to light and airy and I love the way it turned out on our small budget.
– One of my absolute favorite CDs of all time is free to download this month. So many families in the NICU told JJ Heller that they loved her lullaby album and played it for their little ones that she is offering the entire I Dream Of You album for free today. You can download it here and it is so worth it. I Get To Be The One is what I set Scarlette’s first birthday video to and it is such a beautiful, moving tribute to motherhood.
– My post about prematurity and PTSD was featured on The Huffington Post and I am so honored. It’s such a blessing to me to have opportunities to share hope with other parents.
