The tagline of this blog is “faith, family and favorite things” and it has been quite a long time since I shared any of my favorite things mostly because those types of posts take forever to write and I’m spending my days trying to stay one step ahead of a 4 year old who’s favorite phrase is “I just being a wittle bit sneaky wite now.”
So I decided to write about a few of my favorite things today and then when I went out to the garden to cut a couple of blooms there were literally raindrops on my roses. I can not even tell you how much I enjoyed that little bit of serendipity.
Related: Does anyone else just cringe watching that movie? Not The Sound of Music, obviously. That is one of the best movies of all time, Julie Andrews is queen of my heart. I mean Serendipity. I can not watch it. It makes me so edgy. I’m like “HE LITERALLY JUST WALKED AROUND THE CORNER. HE IS LITERALLY STANDING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TABLE FROM YOU. YOU COULD LITERALLY TOUCH HIM RAT NAO.”
Anyhow, here are a few things that I have been loving lately. This angled eyeliner that I found is going to change your life.
STATEMENT NECKLACE – I borrowed this from my best friend to wear in my author headshots because I love it so much and later she texted me and said “It’s so you, keep it.” Then I wore it on Easter Sunday and a lady stopped me and said “I love that necklace!” And I felt in my heart that maybe I should also pass it on in the spirit that it was given to me. So then I thanked her and went about having lunch. I thought about paying it forward but then I thought about how much I like that necklace and decided to just be polite instead. I just didn’t want you to think I was a better person than I am and all. My BFF is the sweet one. I’m the salty one. (By the way, it’s from Francesca’s.)
AUDREY BUNNY – My awesome marketing manager at B&H gave Scarlette this book by Angie Smith. Scarlette has requested that we read it every night since. J and I were talking the other night about how much we love the storyline, it’s sweet and uplifting and encouraging. And as the mama to a little girl who has a lot of visible scars from her time in the NICU, I thought it was a great read on two levels- one that God loves us just as we are and also that our marks are what make us special.
VANILLA CARAMEL CHAI TEA – This and Irish Breakfast Tea are currently helping me cut my coffee habit. I realize that there isn’t much different but I feel better about it all the same.
LOLLIA PERFUME IN WISH – I love this perfume. My BFF found it in Anthropologie and insisted that I get it. And so I did, because it is the perfect mix of floral and a light vanilla. And also because it is exactly what I imagine Taylor Swift smells like. Plus, J told me that the Ralph Lauren Blue that I’ve been wearing for years was starting to give him a headache so I had been looking for a replacement. This one has garnered lots of compliments.
THREDUP – I am seriously obsessed with this place. I bought that Ann Taylor Loft top with tags for $6. I’ve scored some really great deals and have been super happy with the quality for being secondhand. It’s been such a great, budget-friendly way to build my wardrobe since I started from scratch. (This link will give you $10 credit!)
YELLOW ROSES – My rosebushes just make me happy. Every year they start to bloom around the anniversary of when we brought Scarlette home from the NICU and that always is a sweet reminder for me.
NONPAREILS – I took Scarlette to a sweet shoppe recently and now I’m kind of obsessed with these. I don’t remember liking these as a kid but as an adult I’m like
ALEX AND ANI BRACELET – My bracelet is from the March of Dimes charity benefit collection and I love it. I love the bangle and being able to add/change the charms. It’s a fun twist on the charm bracelet that I wore all through junior high.
LEMON OIL – I mean, I use my oils daily and I love the smell of lemon oil and how it tricks people into thinking I’ve cleaned my house. But right now I love it because it get crayons off the wall AND it gets leftover marker off Scarlette’s IKEA dry erase board.
DAYSPRING POSTCARDS – One of my big goals this year is to be better connected to my friends. I tend to be a bit of a workaholic. I love these friendship postcard sets from DaySpring because the big thing that keeps me from sending cards is that I can never find an envelope. I have like, a million cards scattered in my desk and the envelopes just seem to disappear to wherever mismatched socks go. So these are easy to drop in the mail and also, postcard postage is cheaper than regular stamps 😉
MAYBELLINE MASTER KAJAL EYELINER – I am not even kidding when I tell you that I am in love with this. It has a cone shaped angled tip and so I can just sort of roll it across my eye horizontally to apply. I don’t have to pull on my eyes, which is good because while I look about twelve years old most of the time my eyes are definitely showing my age, what with all the years of contacts wearing, eyeliner applying and laughter. Here’s a video on how to apply, which I enjoy because of my fondness for British accents but also makes me a bit cringe-y because close ups of people’s eyeballs freak me out.
LEMON VERBENA AIR FRESHENER – I’ve been using the lavender one from The Honest Co. forever and just ordered this one to switch things up. Obviously I have a thing for citrus scents. I think this might have to do with my allergy. If I can’t eat them, I’ll just make my house smell like them.
Also, chocolate caramel muffins at Starbucks and the new royal baby, obviously.
