This winter we took a weekend and switched Scarlette’s room and the spare room, which functions as my office. We mostly did it because it was time to convert Scarlette’s toddler bed into a full and even though her room was the larger of the two, the positioning of the windows and closet doors meant that we couldn’t fit the bed and dresser in there. There were other benefits too, like how that room stays warmer in the winter and darker, thanks to not facing the early morning sunrise.
Honestly, I wish we had done it a few years back. We ended up sending her to my dad’s for the weekend while we repainted and made the switch to surprise her for Christmas. I still hadn’t hung any artwork though because I just wasn’t sure how to make it look cute. Luckily for me, my best friend happens to work for an interior design firm and is pretty good at that sort of thing.
I already had a good bit of artwork collected, like the button monogram that I made, and some other pieces from Minted, like this family tree artwork that I ordered a few years back and this new piece that they offered to send me of framed watercolor flowers. I thought that one would sort of tie everything together. So I just put all of the options in Scarlette’s room and then Tiff took like, five minutes to look at it all and then started arranging pieces.
Where was I while this was happening you ask? Helping my father install our new garbage disposal. WE ALL HAVE OUR GIFTS.
When I came back in, Tiff had everything laid out in a gallery style format with one of Scarlette’s pink wire baskets, which she hung on the wall to hold toys and books.
Y’all. I would have never thought of that.
But I did look at how she posed Mister Bockadush, Scarlette’s stuffed fox, and then did this:
Like I said. WE ALL HAVE OUR GIFTS.
Anyhow, here is what Tiff did to Scarlette’s room. Isn’t it the cutest? She also took the Minted bunting banner that spells out Scarlette’s name (which I had ordered for her tea-party birthday a couple of years ago) and used it to spell out her initials over her bed.
We hung everything with anchors but we also used the velcro command strips for frames for extra support. Because of this:
The fact that Scarlette’s favorite past-time is hurling herself off her bed onto a beanbag chair while yelling CANNONBALL is the reason that a) I was overcautious about wall hanging security and b) I expect that few of them will always remain slightly crooked.
But she was overjoyed with her new room and I love finally having the artwork all on the walls instead of in piles next to my desk. Tiff is coming back soon to help me figure out a good layout of the rest of the space and then I’ll share all the fun before and after pictures! Five years in and we finally have almost all of the rooms in this house finished!
