Christmas came a bit early for me this week in the form of a visit to my specialist where, for the first time this pregnancy, I got the news that everything was good and stable! Seriously, I see the specialist every other week and every visit thus far I’ve been met with less than good news: certain parts of my body not doing their job, random infections landing me in the hospital, etc.
At 21 weeks now I’m just a few weeks shy of when I went into labor with Scarlette (which has me a bit a lot anxious) and so good news at this appointment was really just the best Christmas gift I could have asked for.
The fun part about so many ultrasounds is getting to see the baby so often. This baby is super active and enjoys furiously punching wherever the ultrasound tech is pushing. Scarlette looked at the sonographer and said very seriously, “Excuse me, Miss Julie? I fink you need to move the camera a little bit wider. I needa see if dis baby’s nose looks like mine. Yep, it looks just like me alright! Let’s call it Scarlette Junior! Dat could be a good name!”
Because of partial bed rest, about the only time I’ve gotten up and dressed and about was to attend Scarlette’s Christmas pageant (so I snapped a baby bump pic at 19 weeks.) Scarlette performed her first song and then when it ended the gym was silent, because no one was quite sure if the song was over, and so she threw her hands in the air and yelled “HEY EBERYBODY! YOU’RE SUPPOSA CLAP FOR ME NOW!”
And here is what Scarlette asked for for Christmas this year. You know, just what every expecting mom wants 😉
My dad told us that when he took Scarlette to lunch she spotted a man who looked like Santa and walked up to him and told him that she would really like a drum set. When he asked her if she had been a good girl she replied “Oh, I’m ALWAYS bery good. Lucy Dog is just really naughty and gets me in SO MUCH TROUBLE!”
She has kept me laughing so much lately, I really need to write up a Stuff Scarlette Says post soon. The other day she was playing with the nativity, except that she was making Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus be Power Rangers and fight the Three Wise Men. Obviously she has really taken all my teaching about the meaning of Christmas to heart. I mean, technically the Power Rangers also wanted peace on earth.
She kept making Baby Jesus ride on Lucy Dog (because Lucy Dog was the sabertooth tiger, apparently.) After Baby Jesus fell off for the third time Scarlette huffed in frustration, put her hands on her hips and said exasperatedly “You know what Baby Jesus? I fink we just need to find you a new career.”
(And I was like “I feel as though I have a few ideas of things Baby Jesus might be real good at.”)
Tomorrow we’ll visit our local NICU to drop off our annual Christmas gift baskets to the families there so I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated books to help fill our baskets! We’re so appreciative!
Thanks for all your love and support during the last few months – I’m so grateful for y’all (and for the friends and family who have been running my life for me while I’ve been so sick!) Wishing you all the merriest Christmas!
