These are a few things that mommy + baby toddler are loving right now:
1) Sili Squeeze – I love this thing more than I loved Boy Meets World circa 1996. Because of Scarlette’s unwillingness to touch mushy foods, she still eats a lot of purees. But she’s not so good with the whole concept of a spoon. She loves the pouches you can buy at the store but mommy’s pocketbook does not. Those things are flippin’ pricey. So when I saw a reuseable silicone squeeze pouch, I was ridiculously excited. I ordered the 6 ounce Sili Squeeze With Ease. It’s only $12 and it is a lifesaver. I typically fill it with a homemade puree or some applesauce (+ they often post great recipes for it on their blog.) It goes in my bag on every outing and is a snacktime staple (as seen above)
2) American Plastic Water Wheel Play Table – After some debate I ended up with this one because it was inexpensive but had good reviews and I like buying products made in the USA. I also picked this one because I liked the way it was triangle shaped and with two compartments I can easily move it inside to a kitchen corner to transition it to a sensory table once the weather turns cold. The only con is that there is no plug to let the water out, but it’s lightweight enough that I just dump it over the back porch (see also: how I water the plants) Seriously the best $20 I’ve ever spent. Every afternoon Scarlette plays at the water table while I lay on a blanket next to her and read. Until she dumps water on me, that is.
3) Booginhead 52′”Round Splat Mat – First of all, my kid loves to throw food. Second of all, we do a lot of messy art projects around here. We had another brand of splat mat prior to this one and I hated it. It would never lay flat, it was hard to clean and it was all around just too small. This one works great and gets used often during the day at our house.
4) Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus – I don’t know what it is about this book but Scarlette LOVES it. She no longer greets Jeff at the top of the stairs with a “Hi!” when he gets home from work. She hears him pull in, runs and gets this book and then holds it out excitedly to him and says “BOOKA! BOOKA!” I read this book about four thousand, nine hundred and sixty three times per day. Also, I just went to look this up on amazon so that I could link to it and discovered there is a whole series of Don’t Let The Pigeon books. So now I know what Scarlette is getting for her birthday. ETA: OH MY GOSH I JUST FOUND A STUFFED VERSION OF THE PIGEON. Things are getting crazy over here.
5) Super Why – Confession: I kind of hate Super Why. First of all, at the beginning they say “What do we do when we want to find the answer to a question? We look in a book!” and that I can totally get behind. But then the whole premise of the show is that they change the story in the book to solve their problem. And I’m like WHY ARE YOU LOOKING IN A BOOK IF YOU ARE JUST GOING TO CHANGE THE STORY?! THAT’S NOT HOW IT WORKS, WYATT. And then Jeff is all “Honey, stop yelling at animated characters.” But Scarlette loves it and the child will repeat the letters and sounds when they tell her to. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking “Wow, her baby is a genius.” And you would be right. Also, my sister and I are convinced that Phil Collins is singing the theme song to this show.
