Scarlette likes to hover near my legs while I am cooking, winding herself between my legs and generally causing chaos during food prep. So the kitchen is where I set the LeapFrog Animal Adventures Learning Table up, to entice her away from the stove. And also the bag of chocolate chips that she discovered and made off with. She’s stealthy, that one. The other day I found her in her excersaucer holding a carton of ranch dressing. I PUT her in her excersaucer so I have no idea where she was hiding that. Probably I don’t want to know.
She really likes the drum in the center of the table. It has a variety of songs and light patterns and she often will run to the table, hit the drum and start dancing. And by “often” I mean, all day long. The child loves music. Also, Scarlette dancing is one of the cutest things ever. She actually seems to be keeping beat with her clapping which means maybe she didn’t inherit my complete lack of rhythm. I think that’s her favorite thing about the table, the different choices of music.
Unfortunately, she isn’t really interested in the other facets of the table. I tried to get her to play with the different activities but she wasn’t interested in anything but the music drum, although she did like hiding random things inside the hippo. I found a couple of alphabet stickers and some peas in there. So there’s that.
We have an activity table by a different brand that seems to hold her interest a lot more on the other activities, I think because they are larger and have more buttons. The LeapFrog table’s activities are smaller and do a little less, the drum seems to be the major part of the table and that really seems to be the only part she cares about.
I think it’s better suited to a younger baby because when the legs are off it becomes a floor toy and it seems like it’d be a better fit for smaller hands with all of the knobs to twist and turn. While it technically “grows with you” and the age range says 6-36 months, I think that at almost two years old, Scarlette’s on the cusp of outgrowing it. It’s a great toy, I think we’ve just aged out of it so I’ll pass this one on to our friends who have a baby under 1 and will enjoy it a lot more.
