1) The first footprint is from the day Scarlette was born. The second is from the day my niece was born. It looks so big and yet my niece was only 5 pounds! Sometimes I forget how small Scarlette was/is, until I see what full term newborns look like.
2) Did I ever tell y'all that I minored in Gender Studies in college? I found a folder full of research papers while cleaning out the closet in Scarlette's room. I wrote a lot of papers about sex. Apparently the fact that I'd never actually had it did not deter me from thinking I was an authority on the subject. Also, one of my papers had this note from my professor penned in red "A-.Well written but could use more factual support. And a little proofreading never hurt anyone, especially you."
That cracks me up because a) y'all know I never proofread and b) I'm pretty sure my professor knew I was making stuff up. Mostly because I covered my eyes when they showed us a nekkid video in class. No lie.
3) Having your husband get sick enough to where you are not allowed in the NICU to avoid exposure to the tiny babies (even though you are not sick and have no symptoms yourself) is just about one of the worst things that can happen to a NICU mommy. Because it means you don't get to see your baby. And that breaks your heart every single second of the day. Even when she is getting better, this journey is hard.
and finally…
I love you 🙂 I love you for loving her, for caring for us, for reading this mess of my thoughts without judgement and letting me share this season honestly. Even if you disagree with me, all the words here are only evidence of my own experience and I am truly thankful for your kindness in response to my vulnerability.
