My little sister came over for a sister/cousins playdate and rifled through my closet because the weather was hot and she was wearing a sweater. And we were taking the kids to the bouncy-house gym, which is basically like a bazillion degrees inside. (Seriously, why do they keep those places so hot? I mean, you spend the whole time helping your toddler climb the six million steps to the top of the inflatable slide so you’re already working up a sweat.)
Anyhow, everything that she pulled out was one of my Stitch Fix pieces. And then I had the brilliant idea to have her model some of them with me because y’all keep asking me to do another review post whenever I post pictures of my new things on instagram. The problem is that I feel really awkward taking pictures of myself but I figured that taking some pictures with my super cute sister would totally help with that. Our at least deflect the attention from my awkwardness. Except that our first attempt looked like this:
We failed at posing like fashion bloggers, obviously. Eventually we composed ourselves and stopped chanting “Fashion show at lunch! Fashion show at lunch!” long enough to snap some photos of a few things I’ve received in my Stitch Fix boxes lately:
I kept both of the tops in the first photo. I just really love stripes y’all. In the second photo are two tops that I had originally planned to send back. One because it was a silky button up with tiny pictures of birds on it and I am not the sort of person who can pull off wearing aviary themed clothing. My sister, however, is. She fell in love with it and decided to keep it. The teal shirt I like a lot and actually looks okay in this photo but in person we all agreed that it was just too big for me. I was pretty bummed about that because it was cute and comfortable.
Here is another Stitch Fix win because I did not think that I could pull off a peplum top but they sent me this white eyelet one and I loved the way it fit. I decided to keep that one too, which worked out well because I ended up smearing red lipstick on the inside of it when I tried it on so I was basically going to have to buy that one whether I liked it or not. Tip: don’t try on clothes while wearing red lipstick. I didn’t like the way the white button up top looked on me. Another top that my sister could pull off but just wasn’t my style.
I did keep the blue skirt because it looks just like something Anne Hathaway wore in The Princess Diaries and that is always a very logical reason to buy clothes. Also because I don’t own any nice skirts. And I kept the striped dress because it made me feel like Princess Kate. Apparently “princess” is my clothing criteria. Someone please get me a tiara, stat.
(Stitch Fix is personal styling by mail service. Basically, you fill out an extensive style profile online and then your stylist ships you clothing and accessories based on your budget and needs that they handpick for you. You can earn discounts when you refer friends so I am using my referral link here because I’ve been really happy with the service and who doesn’t like to get discounts on clothing? EVERYONE LIKES THAT.)
I’ve been using them since the fall and I do think that it took a couple of tries before they really “got” my style and at this point I feel like they’ve really learned my style. I typically keep a few pieces from each box thanks to having some referral credits and usually what I send back is due to a sizing issue with the fit or a sizing issue with my budget for clothing that month. (Or because they sent me a shirt with birds on it.)
You can also request things you see in other people’s fixes so I pinned this pink top that Stephanie got in her last fix. I noticed on her post that she invited people to leave their referral link in the comments so I thought I’d do the same since I still have some credits and that way we can spread the referral love a little bit ♥
Also, when I showed my husband these photos he said “Wow, y’all are the palest people ever.” (But seriously, my sister had melanoma so we are totally pale and proud.) And if you want to see what it is like to be in my family, watch this video. Ha!
