This is a big year for me and my best girlfriends because it’s the one in which we all turn thirty. THIRTY, Y’ALL. That feels so strange, considering that we all met when we were fourteen. Or in the case of me and Shawn, in Mrs. Larkin’s kindergarten class. Twenty five years later and we’ve traded our apple juice for appletinis.
(I typed that last sentence and then I texted Shawn and was all, “ERMAGERD DO YOU REALIZE THAT WE HAVE BEEN FRIENDS FOR TWENTY FIVE YEARS?!” I’m a very thoughtful friend because that probably didn’t freak her out at all.)
Recently I was asked if I’d like to host a giveaway for a $100 Visa Gift Card and review an advance copy of the book, Ladies’ Night, by Mary Kay Andrews. Who happens to be one of my favorite authors. Who happened to write about Ladies’ Nights. In which the main character happens to be a blogger. I like to call that a trifecta of goodness, y’all. I’m pretty sure I have never responded yes so quickly to an email, ever. (Click CONTINUE READING to read more about the book + enter the giveaway)
If you’ve never read Mary Kay Andrews before, start now. Especially if you are southern. It’s basically one of our of requirements down here – to drink sweet tea and read Mary Kay Andrews. Plus, she’s a New York Times best-selling author. I mean, I’m just saying. Ladies’ Night revolves around a blogger named Grace who’s life falls a bit to pieces and tells a heartwarming story of friendship and love. It’s also hilarious. It’s a must-have beach read this summer because it is smart and witty and relatable. Who doesn’t know what it is like to have a life crisis and need a standing date with good friends?
Saturday night, the girls and I all went out for our own Ladies’ Night, all dressed up for the screening of a new movie at the High Museum of Art in downtown Atlanta. Afterwards we hit up Fellini’s, which is sort of like our version of the book’s dive bar The Sandbox, with greasy food and good drinks. Except that I drank root beer on account of how I am a lightweight and also the designated driver. My husband would probably tell you not to confuse “designated” with “good” but there you have it.
(This is what we look like when we have girls night. And also when we get lost downtown. Why did I make friends with such tall people? I am wearing five inch wedges in these photos, y’all.)
This was a special occasion for us as the screening was a work event for me and gave us all an excuse to go out. With seven kids between us, our ladies’ nights normally consist of putting the kids to bed, making some sangria and breaking out the Trader Joe’s peanut butter chocolate cupcakes while we lounge around the den swapping stories and watching silly YouTube videos and breaking out old high school yearbooks to reminisce.
Ladies Night by Mary Kay Andrews comes out on June 4th. Which is today. Which, incidentally, is 2 days before I turn thirty so you can treat yourself to a copy in honor of my birthday. Also, Mary Kay Andrews put together a few recipes from the book that you can download here (Of course she did. Southern women never let you leave a get-together empty handed) so you can make yourself something yummy to take to your next girls’ gathering!
Leave a comment telling me what you love about getting your friends together for ladies’ night to be entered to win a $100 Visa Gift Card (which could buy you and your girls a lot of bar food, y’all) AND a copy of Ladies’ Night, signed by author!
