Late last week I was invited to go on a press trip to Kissimmee, Florida. Okay, so I wasn’t actually invited on account of how I am not a travel blogger (correction: was not a travel blogger. Now, TOTALLY WANT TO BE A TRAVEL BLOGGER.) But since the sweet girl who was invited couldn’t make the trip, she asked me to fill in for her. I KNOW, RIGHT?
I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures above but I am only slightly excited about this. That second photo is the reason people mistake me for a small child. Which has totally happened on this trip already. (P.S. I blame y’all for this, as I took your unanimous advice to not get bangs, which you all swore would make me look older.)
It was a very last minute thing and after some deliberations with my husband and family we agreed that I would go, making this the longest period of time that I have ever been away from Scarlette. Which also makes this the longest period of time that I have slept through the night in the past two and a half years.
I began to wonder if this was a good idea or not when I got on the airplane and remembered things like how I am afraid of flying on airplanes.
I was thinking about how I’ve never done a press trip before when I started to get a little bit queasy but then I realized that was less about my nerves and more about how we were hitting a crazy amount of turbulence and the captain was saying something about something about buckling our seatbelts and sitting tight for a rough ride. I didn’t really hear him because someone was loudly praying “Dear Sweet Jesus, please keep this plane in the air.”
(Then I also remembered about how people don’t seem to like sitting next to me on airplanes, on account of how I am the “DEAR SWEET JESUS PLEASE KEEP THIS PLANE IN THE AIR girl.)
(So then I tried my standard fallback, which is to pretend that I am an unaccompanied minor and start softly whimpering “I wish my mom and dad were here!”)
Eventually I got safely off the plane and found my shuttle, which made me feel incredibly empowered and competent, given that whole Chicago ordeal.
So that’s how I ended up in this hotel in Kissimmee, Florida. This morning I had breakfast with Shrek and Princess Fiona. THEN I HELD AN ALLIGATOR. It was amazing. I’m live tweeting/instagramming my trip and so I made my instagram public if you’d like to follow along. Afterwards I’ll do a recap here but I’ll be writing up a detailed article, complete with photos, on each event that I am attending over at Mommy Musings.
(Also, I’d like to apologize in advance to whomever happens to be assigned the seat next to me on the trip home.)
