Y’all. I’ve got a story. So, basically I decided that I wanted to make my own baby food for Scarlette back when I was still pregnant. I was sent a copy of Super Baby Food to review and I really liked it. But then after I actually had a baby I fell in love with this book because it covered everything I might need to know in an incredible amount of detail.
Basically if I had a question about a food (how to prepare it, what the nutritional value was, how many calories were in it, when was it safe to feed to my baby, etc.) it answered it. It even told me things like what to look for when buying fresh fruits and vegetables. For a novice, it was the perfect solution for me because it covered so much material. And since we discovered that Scarlette had feeding issues and was only able to eat purees for basically a year it gave me a ton of options not only for different foods to prepare but also to help me learn to “calorie load” them so that she was getting the most out of each meal.
(The author of the book actually had premature twins, which is what prompted her to make her own food and write the book. Before that she programmed satellites for NASA. Obviously we have a lot in common.)
I constantly recommend this book to my mommy friends and linked it here often whenever anyone would ask me about making my own baby food.
Apparently that doesn’t go unnoticed thanks to this little thing called “The Internets” and a few months ago I was contacted and asked if I would like to write a testimonial for the endorsements on the inside front cover of the new edition.
I felt as though that was a lot of awesome.
Then they sent me a copy of the new edition in the mail and I have a lot to say about things like how good the new content is but first let me tell you the most important thing. To me. I opened the book up to the front page and scanned it to see my testimonial and do you know what I saw? Do you even know who’s name was underneath the first testimonial in the book?
Martha Stewart.
My testimonial is in this book after Martha Stewart’s, y’all.
I can’t even.
In related news, you know, the part where they would like me to tell you about the new edition of the book and not spend this entire post mentioning the fact that my endorsement is ON THE SAME PAGE AS MARTHA STEWARTS, I do really like the new edition.
They re-organized it and I think the new setup makes everything much easier to find. I appreciated the updated list of online resources and even the print is bigger, which was my only complaint about my old copy because I have terrible eyesight and there was so much information in small print that I had to really squint to read it.
The book also includes a lot of safe, edible recipes for things like play dough or finger paints or bubbles. And if you don’t want to make your own baby food, I think it’s still worth the investment because it gives so much helpful information about feeding, nursing, bottle feeding, etc. in general. It also has a crazy amount of bonus extras like how to make your own laundry detergent which I have yet to attempt but my sister says works wonderfully.
