One thing I love about working with brands as a blogger is it affords me extra opportunities to give back to my community. This year when I was asked if I wanted to create a Mother’s Day gift using DOVE® Dark Chocolate for a sponsored post I knew right away that I wanted to do a gift basket for the moms who have babies in our local NICU right now.
When we were in the NICU with Scarlette former families or organizations would often leave a basket of treats for the current families in the parent’s lounge and so I decided to do the same. I figured it was only fitting to include a candy line that is called PROMISES®.
Spending your first Mother’s Day with your baby in the NICU is a really emotional experience so I was thankful when DOVE® gave me some leeway to do something different than a typical craft project to bring a little bit of bite-size joy to those moms.
Our NICU can accomodate about 22 babies so with that number in mind I bought several packs of these mini journals from Dayspring and put them in the basket (which I picked up in the Target Easter clearance, score!) along with with 4×6 prints of this free printable that Jen Kinkade designed for me and then filled it to the brim with the DOVE® Dark Chocolate PROMISES® which included Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate, Silky Smooth Almond Dark Chocolate, Silky Smooth Mint & Dark Chocolate Swirl, and the new Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel (OH MY GOSH SO GOOD. I might have snagged a few bites.)
I also made this cute 5×7 printable Mother’s Day card that I attached some chocolate candy to – just click this link to download: printableMDcard_KA
It was a really easy project and I hope it helps to lift the spirits of the families who are celebrating this first milestone holiday in the hospital. Its funny what stays on your heart long after you leave and for me it is that, I don’t think I’ll ever spend another holiday not remembering those families because it was so difficult for me on those days when we were there. A gift basket is a small thing really, but if you find yourself scoring some great deals on Easter candy or just want to #sharetheDove (see what I did there?) I can tell you that dropping one off at your local hospital would be appreciated by many.
