I love giving experiences gifts. In fact, one of the most popular posts on my blog is the one titled 25 Non-Toy Gift Ideas in which I shared how we try to scale our Christmas gift giving to favor experience gifts over toy gifts.
This year we polled our parents to find out some small things on their bucket lists and then we scoured the Local Things To Do section on Groupon to find them some gift certificates for those experiences! For my mother we found a snow tubing experience, which is something that she had mentioned wanting to do. The only downside to experience gifts is that I LOVE to wrap presents. In college I worked at the gift wrap department in the mall. Obviously I was destined to become a scrapbooker.
So when Groupon challenged me to come up with a creative way to wrap a Groupon I was all GAME ON, GROUPON. I am also very competitive.
Then I remembered that I had chosen SNOW TUBING for my mother and thought to myself “Self, I may have been overconfident about my abilities here.”
And then one day I was eating a chocolate donut and thought that it looked like an inner tube. So then I did this:
Yes that’s right. I MADE A SNOW TUBING GINGERBREAD SCENE. It’s like a gingerbread house only it doesn’t make you feel crazy when all the walls keep tumbling down like that song from the bible. Then I wrapped it up in a cute baked goods tin and was all “SCORE ONE FOR ME.”
Here is a video showing how I did it!
Also in case you were wondering about the missing red and green candies in the back, no I did not forget them and yes my four year old did sneak in and eat them while I was attempting to let the icing dry. Of course she did.
