So gingerbread houses, I can’t make them. Y’all, I can’t. I hot glued the last one together. And then when Honey Maid asked me if I would share a holiday baking coupon and a holiday dessert recipe using their graham crackers, I was all “Sure! Then I can make some cute mini faux gingerbread houses with Scarlette with the leftover graham crackers! It will be so fun and crafty!”
Because I was overconfident, that’s why.
We made gingerbread house TENTS. Because I could not get the walls to stay up any other way. This is why I do not have a million dollar craft blog, on account of GINGERBREAD TENTS.
But Scarlette LOVED doing it and so they are proudly displayed on our dining room table.
It was really fun to do with her, except that she was very particular about her patterns. I do not know where she gets that from. I’m not slightly neurotic about the way we put ornaments on the tree or anything.
Also, I just love this because I’m her mom and all but this is what happens when your 4 year old wears a size 3T shirt and a size 24month pant. You forget and buy a set of 3T pajamas and the bottoms are all baggy even after you roll the waist like, seventeen times. It’s so cute.
After that we made Graham Bars, which are really easy to make and fun to do with kids because they get to crush up peppermints and sprinkle them on the top. Or at least, that’s fun for my kid. She really enjoys smashing things.
Here is how you make them!
How To Make Dark Chocolate Peppermint Graham Bars
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Step 2: Lay 5 graham crackers in a baking dish
Step 3: Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup butter on the stove, then pour over the graham crackers.
Step 4: Bake for about 10 minutes
Step 5: Melt 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, spread over graham crackers with a spatula and sprinkle on crushed peppermints

We picked up a box at Walmart, where my daughter tried to convince me that what we really needed were boxes of graham crackers shaped like Minions. Which I told her were so cute but not really good for building houses. Although PROBABLY would have been fine considering how our “houses” came out 😉
