.) This weekend we celebrated Scarlette’s homecoming anniversary with red velvet cupcakes. She asked me if she could have a candle and then she asked me if she could blow out said candle about thirteen times. Then she proceeded to sing Happy Birthday to herself and asked the mailman if he had a present for her. I might not have explained this day well to a three year old is what I am saying.
.) Lately Scarlette has been all about pretending to give people checkups. She is constantly listening to my heart with her stethoscope, looking in my ears and giving me pretend shots. So this morning when she crawled in my bed and started pressing something plastic against my head and murmuring to herself, I figured that pretending to be her patient would steal me a few more minutes of lying in bed. It’s really a genius game. And it seemed like a great plan until I walked past the bathroom mirror later and discovered that what she had ACTUALLY been doing was covering my forehead with her new blue easter stamps.
.) Today I am keeping a little girl named Lucy. I thought it might be confusing to Scarlette that we also have a dog named Lucy because she is in a phase where she is very adamant about people’s names only belonging to the people she associates them with, as in “YOUR NAME NOT HAYLEY ONLY MY FWIENDS NAME IS HAYLEY AND NOT YOUR NAME!” It’s a problem and may possibly be why she just calls all of the other kids Larry. So I tell her in an excited voice all about how a little girl named Lucy is coming to play with us today. And Scarlette inexplicably bursts into tears and insists that only her dog can be named Lucy and no one else and she can not have a friend named Lucy.
Finally, after nearly ten minutes of toddler-esque discussion she bursts out “BUT NO MOMMY! I DON’T WANT DAT LUCY! I JUST WANT A LUCY I CAN USE!”
.) A recommendation for my baby/toddler/preschooler moms: this water and sand table (that’s my amazon link) is the best money I have ever spent for Scarlette. She has been enamored with her water table since she was really young and I had just gotten an inexpensive one. It busted this winter so now that she is taller I decided to get one that is adjustable. I wish I had just spent the money and gotten this one from the start since it’s a grow-with-me table and because it has drains and a cover so I’m not having to clean and refill it multiple times a day during pollen season. I had planned on just putting water in it but she begged us to put sand in one side so we did. She literally spends all morning playing with it and it is quite possibly the most peaceful time of my day.
.) Pinterest told me I could lay a wooden spoon over a pot of water to keep it from boiling over. Yesterday I instagrammed this photo of my spoon after I tried that tip and it CAUGHT ON FIRE. So. Nailed it, obviously. And shameless plug: one of my friends owns a cute store called Pearls & Piggytales. She is auctioning off the necklace below for our March For Babies walk this year! If you love it, you can bid on it here and she will match the donation up to $50. It’s a great way to score a sweet necklace for yourself and support our team!
