In high school my group of friends, which we divided by gender and referred to one half of us as “The Girls” and the other as “The Boys”, used to play Freebird a lot. Well, The Boys did. They would sit in the church parking lot and blare the guitar solo over the speakers. I think they thought they were being retro. I’m not really sure, but they would randomly yell out “FREEBIRD!” when ever they passed one another in the hallways.
This is one of those weird memories that has stuck with me some decade later and was the first thing that popped into my head when I got an email asking me if I’d like to do a sponsored post about FREE BIRDS. Turns out, they were not reference a song but a movie. About turkeys. That stars Amy Poehler.
You had me at Amy Poehler.
Okay, and also at the fact that there is a chance to win an iPad because I feel like I might really like to have an iPad and I sort of love giveaways.
Here is a little bit about the movie FREE BIRDS, which comes out today:
In this hilarious, adventurous buddy comedy for audiences of all ages, directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!), two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history – and get turkey off the Thanksgiving menu for good.
Starring the voices of Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol, George Takei, Colm Meaney, Keith David, Carlos Alazraqui, Dwight Howard
GEORGE TAKEI, Y’ALL.
To enter the iPad giveaway, you basically just have to make a turkey hand. I know you think you already know how to do that but you totally don’t. Seriously, watch this video and Amy Poehler will teach you a completely new way to make a turkey hand. It’s sort of amazing.
Then just email a photo of your hand drawn turkey hand! That’s it and you’re entered.Email your photo to giveaways@makeandtakes.com with FREE BIRDSin the subject line OR Instagram a turkey hand photo using the hashtag #FreeBirdsHandTurkey.
(You can enter as many times as you’d like with a new photo each time (must be different). You have until November 11th to enter. Winner will be announced on Make and Takes on November 12th!)

(This is a compensated post in partnership with Relativity Media about a movie that I think looks like it would be really fun to see with your kiddos! I mean, I will see this movie even though Scarlette probably won’t sit still through the whole thing because I enjoy watching children’s movies alone in my thirties. I am not even being facetious, y’all.)
