It’s no secret that I am pale. I mean, for one thing, I mention it often. I tend to overshare. So the thing about bronzing powder is that it doesn’t usually work for me. It’s supposed to give you a “sun-kissed glow” but most of my attempts at it have ended up more like “rubbed-some-dirt-on-her-face” because, well, brushing tan-colored powder on vampire-esque white skin tends to have that effect.
Then I was introduced to illuminating bronzing powder and, sucker that I am for all things shimmery, I jumped on board thinking that the coveted “sun-kissed glow” was in my reach. Sadly, it eluded me once more. Only this time I sparkled.
So the only reason I agreed to review Sonia Kashuk’s new Illuminating Bronzer is because it is made by Sonia Kashuk, and I’ve never tried a product of hers that I didn’t like. And also because I am a glutton for punishment. But mostly because I am a big fan of Sonia Kashuk products. I remember reading about them in my Seventeen magazine and anxiously awaiting their debut at Target. I just really dated myself by admitting that to you. I’m about to be twenty-nine, y’all. TWENTY-NINE. Twenty years ago I was watching Boy Meets World on Friday nights and playing Pogs with my sister. Click READ MORE to continue reading and enter to win a $100 Target Gift Card
But I digress. (POGS!) Okay, seriously. So after a round with some self-tanner I felt like the Sonia Kashuk Illuminating Bronzer would be worth trying, and y’all. It is fantastic.
I was sent some of the Illuminating Bronzer to try out as well as several other cool Sonia Kashuk Products. The Illuminating Bronzer came with instructions, and because I’m such a rule follower, I did what it said. Which was this:
Using a dense brush, apply to cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Unlike a regular powder, you may not see the product on the brush, but it is there. The buildable coverage gives a long-lasting warm glow to even the fairest of skin tones.
It doesn’t look dirty at all, it just adds a little color. I’ve been wearing it instead of blush, which is a pretty big deal seeing as I’m really Southern and consider blush a necessity along the lines of things like food and water. It’s not orange-y at all either, which is another problem I tend to encounter with bronzing powders. It’s like some companies think we all want to look like Snooki. This has a nice bronze finish that is really soft, so you can be sure you will not look like Snooki. And also, it comes with its own little brush and mirror in the crocodile compact, which is great for touch-ups. Or checking your hair. Or pretending to check your hair while you secretly try to determine if the girl in the back corner of the restaurant is Selena Gomez. Whatever.
I was only asked to review the Illuminating Bronzer, but as I mentioned I received some other products too, and the new glitter eyeshadow Eye Quads? They are fantastic. They’re my favorite non-matte eyeshadow ever. My sister and my mother kept trying to steal them from me when I was visiting last weekend. They have no manners. And the Satin Luxe Lip Color lipstick in Classic Red is a really good, it’s Taylor Swift red. It’s much better to do your makeup like Taylor Swift than like Snooki, that’s what I always say. Plus, the lipstick smells like vanilla. It’s like the Hambly Overlays of lipstick. So obviously, my husband was a big fan because we all know how he feels about Hambly Overlays. Unless you are one of his male friends. Then obviously I made that up.
So the big news is that BlogHer is giving away a $100 Target GiftCard to one of my readers. Do you know how much Illuminating Bronzer you can buy with a $100 Target GiftCard? A bunch, that’s how much.
