This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Carton Smart. All opinions are 100% mine.
When I got an email asking if I wanted to Be Carton Smart I was pretty intrigued. We try to be fairly eco-concious around here and we typically try to make as much food from scratch as possible. I mean, I make our own chicken broth now, y'all. This is hardcore.
We don't have many things in cans and in fact, we had given up some of our old favorites mostly because we don't buy canned food anymore. Food like: Jellied cranberry sauce. I know, I know, you can make cranberry sauce from scratch. IT'S NOT THE SAME. I like my cranberry sauce tube shaped, y'all.
So I said yes when they mentioned that one of the items they would be sending was Pacific Foods Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce, mostly just because I wanted to see what it was like to get that in a CARTON.
But also because I liked the idea of being able to have some pantry staples that were both oragnic and eco-friendly. The Tetra-Pak cartons are made of 70% paper from re-grown trees that are FSC certified. Plus, they are recycleable and take up less space than cans. All win-win for me, as long as it tasted good.
Here is what arrived:
I admit: I thought these were SO CUTE. I also thought that I only want to use cartons like this from now on because CABINET JENGA! Do you know how much better I can fit everything? I mean, I'm the girl that arranges my shopping cart for maximum space.
I used the chicken stock make chicken and dumplings for Christmas Day (and Jeff said it was my best ever, which is not a good sign for my homemade broth, y'all.) And I made chocolate chip pumpkin muffins with the pumpkin puree because those are Scarlette's favorite. We go through a LOT of pumpkin puree in this house, actually, because pumpkin is full of good calories and easy for kids who have GI issues like she does. So I'm actually pretty happy to ditch the cans in favor of these. By the way, here is my favorite chocolate chip pumpkin muffin recipe (except I make a lot of substitutions like agave for white sugar and whole what flour for all purpose)
And this is what jellied cranberry sauce looks like from a carton instead of a can:
Squares of cranberry sauce > circles of cranberry sauce
Anyhow, I am honestly really impressed by the packaging. I already use Pacific Foods brand for most of my pantry items so I was really happy to see them in the Tetra-Pak cartons. I will use them for many meals, not just during the holiday season. (Year round cranberry sauce, holla!)
I forgot to take a muffin picture. We ate them all real fast. But I mixed up the leftover cranberry slices with some dates + walnuts to put over crackers & brie. Delicious. And a good way to trick your family who says they don't like cranberry sauce into eating cranberry sauce.
