So my friend Raechel introduced me to StitchFix. And at first I was all “that is totally not for me” because while the idea of a box of clothes hand picked for you by a personal stylist arriving on my doorstep felt very glamorous and fun, I am a bit of a control freak. And by “a bit” I mean, SUCH A CONTROL FREAK.
Oh, also I got bangs.
Anyhow, I kept seeing Raechel in cute outfits and decided to just be adventurous, dang it. Except the first time I forgot to take any pictures because I was in a rush to go out of town. So this time I took a bunch of pictures to show y’all, only disregard all the awkward faces that I am making that express just how awkward I feel taking photos of myself.
The way StitchFix works is that you fill out a pretty extensive online style profile. You can also link up your pinterest, etc. so they can get a good idea of your personal style. Then they send you a box of clothes handpicked for you. You can keep what you like and send back what you don’t.
Ever since I read The No Brainer Wardrobe, I’ve been in the process of re-working my closet. My goal is a small capsule wardrobe that I can mix and match easily without owning a ton of stuff. So I was pretty detailed in specifying my likes, dislikes and needs to them. <- Control. Freak.
I was really excited about the blue wrap dress above, the one that looks JUST LIKE PRINCESS KATE’S. Obviously the Duchess just needs to get some bangs so that me, her and Taylor Swift can all hang out.
Next was this top. StitchFix sends you a card with styling tips + photos on how to wear the pieces they send. They had paired this with a black blazer only I am just the CEO of a 2 year old so I don’t actually own a blazer. So I tried it with a black cardigan instead. And also a top knot, because I looked up “outfit of the day” pictures on the internet and apparently top knots are required. Things I learned: top knots accentuate my elf ears. Also, I love this top and would never have picked it up myself. Plus it works two ways. Like Vanilla Ice, I’m daily and nightly.
I like this scarf but I already have one that is pretty similar to it. But I love the sweater, which is another item I would have passed over on a rack so I am glad I decided to try out something new. The skirt on the other hand…well, I’m pretty sure my face is indicative of my feelings about that one.
What do y’all think: keep the sweater or keep the top with the red stripe at the bottom? It costs $20 to be styled (free shipping!) and then that goes towards whatever you keep, which in my case is definitely the blue dress. But I have some referral credit from sharing this with my girlfriends last time I did it and I am undecided between the tops.
Overall I really liked the experience. I definitely wouldn’t have picked out some items for myself that I ended up liking so that was fun. Plus, I really liked the style suggestions, they were really helpful when I was trying to put things together with what I already had. I’ll probably do it a couple of times this winter, when we’re in quarantine and I can’t get out to shop much and it will be fun to have a package like this arrive at my door.
