When Disney Junior offered to send us a Jake and the Neverland Pirates LEGO® DUPLO® set I said yes because Scarlette loves Jake and the Neverland Pirates and can often be found wearing an eye patch and growling at us. So I knew that both her and my husband, who kind of digs anything LEGO®, would be excited about it.
I, however, had no idea that she was going to be THIS excited:
I mean, y’all. Is Christmas going to be the cutest thing ever at my house this year or what?
One of the areas where Scarlette is a little bit delayed as a result of a prematurity is in her fine motor skills. We did a lot of occupational therapy with her since her wrists were broken on our hospital discharge but she still lags a bit behind her classmates so I was not actually sure how well she would do with this set but thought it would be great practice for her. After watching and helping her I think she is a bit behind other kids her age, honestly, but I have been impressed and maybe a little bit overly-sentimental-mom teary at how she keeps working at it every day.
Plus, I literally found her swinging on the curtains in our living room the other day and thought that we should channel that into something more productive, like learning how to read and follow directions.
One of the reasons that Disney Junior sent the set to us is because on Sunday, October 26 they are airing a special Jake and the Never Land Pirates Battle for the Book and a LEGO® sponsored Epic Battle Build Facebook Sweepstakes, where you can encourage your child to build their own adventure and then take a photo or video of your child with their creation to be entered to win cool prizes.
Scarlette followed the instructions to build the boat and island pretty much exactly (with a little help from her daddy on the harder parts) because she wanted everything to be just like the pictures. And then she made up a story about how Jake did NOT want to go to the restaurant with Captain Hook. And so he shot Captain Hook with a cannon. It was brilliant and will probably win a Caldecott medal.
Her aim though, not so good. But seriously, so cute.
Honestly, Scarlette has not quit playing with the thing and so I added a companion set to her Christmas list because who doesn’t want to see that reaction again when she opens a box?
Disney Junior’s Family Night Special Event featuring Jake and the Never Land Pirates in Battle for the Book airs on Sunday October 26 at 6pm EST/ 5 CST on Disney Channel followed by a new episode where Jake and his friends will be LEGO® DUPLO® characters. So kind of like the LEGO® movie for toddlers, I’m thinking. We are planning to watch because my husband and I went to see The LEGO® Movie by ourselves without any children so obviously us + our three year old are the prime audience for this shindig. I mean, and also because of family friendly fun and stuff.
Plus, I love that Jake and the Neverland Pirates is fun for all kids and not skewed as boys-only because Scarlette is a girl who likes LEGOs® and pirates and she has a huge imagination.

And here is the trailer, in case unlike me you do not have a three year old and have not already seen this advertised on the Disney Channel every morning after breakfast
