(I try to space out my giveaways 2x per month but sometimes the schedule changes on me – I thought y’all might forgive me for the chance to win $100 gas card though ;))
Part of our weekly routine is to fill the car up with gas on Sunday after we’ve been to the grocery store. I have a grocery rewards card that I can use at our local Shell station to save a few cents on each gallon of gas. I’ve been known to nag sweetly remind my husband to remember to use our rewards card when he’s filling up because I’m a little bit annoying super helpful about frugality.
So when BlogHer asked if I wanted to try out the new Fuel Rewards Network™ program to save even more money on gas, and generously offered to host a giveaway of a $100 Shell Gift Card for my readers, I obviously said yes. Because gas is flippin’ expensive. Once upon a time when I got my driver’s license, gas cost less than a dollar per gallon. I also had very frizzy hair and no boyfriend so some things get better with time, y’all.
We are not big credit card users, so I first checked to make sure that the Fuel Rewards Network card wasn’t one- it’s not. It is a free card that you can use it earn rewards to help save on your fuel purchases at Shell. You can also download eCoupons and then earn fuel rewards when you use them.
One of the ways you can earn rewards is through online shopping. You just shop through your Fuel Rewards Network Account the same way you would any other online shopping cash back program (y’all know I’m a big fan of those) only instead of cash back, you earn 5 cents off per gallon (according to fuelrewards.com on 5/6/13). There are a ton of great online merchants in the FRN Online Mall network so that works for me.
What interested me the most is that you can combine multiple rewards offers (cents per gallon rewards) together which is fantastic. I was able to link my grocery rewards card to my Fuel Rewards Network Account so on top of the few cents per gallon I already receive for buying groceries, I was able to stack my other rewards that I earn on top of that. This was really a no-brainer for me since it just helps us save even more money at the pump and it’s something we were already doing. You can learn more about all of the advantages of the Fuel Rewards Network program on their Facebook page or on their website where you can also sign up for a free card.
A tip? Occasionally my grocery store will offer $50 gas gift cards for $40. I then use those with my FRN card to get the most bang for my buck!
