This is a sponsored post on how you can easily participate in Giving Tuesday with Walmart’s Food Pantry Holiday Makeover Campaign. All opinions are my own.
This year I’m trying to keep our Advent season super simple but one of the biggest things I want my daughter to really embrace about Christmas is the joy of giving and the reason behind it. I love gift giving and my hope for her is that she will be a cheerful giver, which is kind of a hard thing to learn when you just turned four. I love Courtney DeFeo’s Light ‘Em Up guide, which has lots of ideas for teaching your children about giving during the holiday season.
Today is Giving Tuesday and so Scarlette and I spent some time gathering items for our NICU family Christmas gift baskets and then went grocery shopping for food to donate to our local food bank. Our store makes it really easy to just purchase while you’re shopping and then drop everything off in their collection bins at the front of the store so it’s a little more manageable with this slightly rambunctious sweet child of mine.
And something super easy that you can do is participate in the Holiday Makeover campaign, which is a grant program to help fund food pantries meet their demands during the busiest time of the year, the holiday season. Walmart’s Food Pantry Holiday Makeover campaign is a nationwide campaign calling on the public to help support their local food pantries this holiday season. The campaign will provide $1.5 million in grants to winning food pantries for facility makeovers. (So they can use the grants to purchase items like new kitchen equipment, furniture, paint, and other supplies that are needed to support their operations and the families they serve.)
They mentioned that 16 million children are food-insecure in the United States (16 million! I can’t even imagine.) So this is a really easy do-it-from-home way to give, you literally just click the mouse to vote and support a participating food bank!
Here is how it works:
You can visit www.walmart.com/holidaymakeover and cast one vote per day to help a participating food pantry!
(The campaign will run online from Monday, December 2 (12:01 a.m. EST) to Friday, December 12 (11:59 p.m. EST). The 75 food pantries with the most votes at the end of the voting period will each receive a $20,000 grant. The winning food pantries will be announced on December 15.)
