When I was 19 years old I got a kitten. It was a few weeks before Christmas. I was home from college, the guy I had been seeing had just dumped me, and I was fighting with my mom.
So I was home from college and I was really sad. So my dad decided to buy me a kitten. He took me to the pound and I had picked out a sweet little white kitten when I heard a tiny mew behind me. It was a teeny little gray kitten sitting meekly in the corner of the cage. She was only three weeks old and she fit in the palm of my hand. Someone had left her in a box. I fell in love with her. I decided to take her home instead.
I named her Paisley. It turned out that Paisley wasn't meek at all. She was insane. I woke up most nights to find her tearing around my room, hanging from my curtains, or chewing on my hair. Pretty soon she went from being able to fit in the palm of my hand to being known as Fat Paisley. She weighed over 20 pounds. (If you've been reading my blog for awhile, then you probably remember seeing her fatness in this video.)
When I got married we weren't allowed to have animals in either of our apartments, so my dad kept her. I have been really excited about getting the house because that meant I would get to bring Paisley with me.
Here is my dilemma:
My dad is moving. His roommate wants to keep Paisley. The thing is, his roommate has a cat named Newman. Newman and Paisley have been together for Paisley's whole life. When I lived with my dad, Paisley slept with me every night. But after I moved away, she began spending more and more time with my dad's roommate. Now she and Newman are inseparable. That's why he wants to take her.
I feel so sad. See, I think it's probably the best thing for Paisley, not to separate her from Newman. She's older now and moving is a tough adjustment for animals, especially older animals. I think she might be happier if she went to live with Newman.
But man I love that cat and I do not want to give her up. It's up to me to decide who gets to take her because she is my cat. Jeff tried to make me feel better and told me he'd buy me a new kitten, but I don't really want a new kitten. I want Fat Paisley, which is just stubborn.
So make me feel better about this, okay?
