I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Smart Balance. I received product samples, and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
We made lasagna for dinner the other night so obviously that called for a side of garlic bread. Smart Balance sent me some of their buttery spread in their new eco-friendly square tubs so we opened one up and mixed some with a bit of fresh garlic and then spread it on italian bread from the bakery (because it was the kind of day where I did not have time to make my own bread, y’all.) My mother spread it on the bread, actually, with that cute little spreading knife they sent, while I took pictures because that is what bloggers do. Also, I like anyone who sends me cute, yellow knives y’all.
I typically just use straight butter because I am southern and that’s just what we do around here. My cousin used to eat it by itself. I’m not even kidding. She straight up bit it right off the stick. That can’t even be good for you.
The Smart Balance is a 1-1 swap if you sub it for butter to make your meals a bit healthier, which I appreciate because I don’t know how to do math and I hate it when I have to do things like divide by 1.793 to find out what ratio of an ingredient I need when I am cooking. Basically I just take a wild guess at it and that is why no one ever asks me to bring a side dish to family gatherings, on account of lack of cooking skills. It’s also why my mother made the lasagna and I took on the laborious task of photographing her making garlic bread. I’m super helpful like that.
Anyhow, my mother likes Smart Balance a lot and so I agreed to try it out.
Smart Balance really wants to be sure y’all know that they just changed the shape of the packaging to make it more storage friendly but not the taste or the amount. Because that happens all the time, a company will change the packaging but what that really means is that they are putting less product inside and charging you the same amount for it. I spend a lot of time ranting about this in the aisles of the grocery store. To myself. It’s not at all awkard of me. And then you realize you’re getting less food for the same amount of money and you start singing Macklemore songs like “I call that gettin’ tricked by a bizness!” That’s not the case here so kudos, Smart Balance. I will concur that it is hip to be square.
