So here is a bit of what is going on around here lately:
After a lot of discussion we have decided to pull Scarlette out of preschool. I would say difficult decision but honestly while it is disappointing it wasn’t that difficult. She has missed as much as she has attended and has had more ER visits and x-rays in the past couple of months than she has in the entire time since our NICU discharge two years ago. We’re all in agreement that her little immune system just isn’t up to the task of battling preschool germs yet and so this will be her last week.
If she were just getting little colds constantly that would be one thing but it seems as though each time she gets one of those little colds it turns into something else and then we’re dealing with labored breathing and high heart rates and sitting in white rooms with monitors flashing saturation numbers at us. Those things give me clammy hands and she is not the only one with a tightened chest when they put a pulse ox on her pointer finger.
In the most recent occurrence of “Weird Complication My Kid Gets From The Common Cold” we came home to find that Scarlette couldn’t walk. It’s a scary thing to see your two year old limp, leg buckling and stumbling sideways. Apparently it is called “Transient Synovitis” and from what we understand it is more common in children with weak immune systems – their cold settles in their hips and causes them to have inflammatory arthritis for about a week or so, causing pain and the inability to walk. ISN’T THAT CRAZY?
(Also, I feel a little bit badly because I was out of town and Jeff kept calling me to tell me she was limping only he also said she had a blister on her toe so I thought she was just being dramatic like her mama.)
I’m sad for her because even though she only goes for three hours two mornings a week, she really loves it. Which means Mommy is about to get even more crafty with toddler materials over here because Scarlette thrives on activity and constant interaction. Pray for me, that is what I am saying.
I’m very, very thankful that we have the option to keep her home with me and that is largely in part to this blog and the amazing community of readers I have so thank you.
And that relates to my next update which is that with the holidays coming I have more opportunities than normal to participate in some really fun sponsored campaigns and offer discounts/giveaways here. It is always my goal to write posts that are fun and engaging and authentic when I work for brands and I try to take ones that showcase fun things (like that crazy curling iron-thingy) or offer good discounts for everyone.
I typically run more giveaways around the holidays in order to give back a little bit but over the next few weeks I will be accepting a bit more than normal on account of the fact that our frequent ER trips this fall have added up quite a bit. I mean, I’m no good with numbers but I know when I want to stop seeing them in my mailbox. I’m grateful that I am able to help contribute to our family through writing while I stay home with Scarlette and hopeful that we’ll have a healthier little girl for the remainder of winter.
That said, if you totally hate sponsored posts, feel free to skip those and just read about all the cute and naughty things my kid does 😉 It won’t hurt my feelings a bit. I plan to keep writing my regular, neurotic content in addition to the special holiday promotions because I have a problem with DOING ALL THE THINGS so there will likely just be an additional post on some days. I also plan to feature lots of fun etsy shops from those of y’all who read here because, well, I like y’all and I like being part of a community that supports one another 🙂
(Also, I still working on a book in the early morning hours before anyone disturbs me and my giant cup of chai/cider/triple espresso.)
Now I am off to put the finishing details on a tiny Super Why costume because I am really on top of my game with this whole “Halloween” thing.
(I wrote this entire post with Scarlette sitting on my lap saying “NO MOMMY! TYPE DA WETTER B! NO! I WAN TYPE DA WETTER Y! I DO ABCMOUSEDOTCOM NOW! ” so I sincerely hope that it is not completely riddled with typos. )
(Okay, I swear I wiped off that table before I took that photo and never ever paint a table black because it still looks dusty ALL THE TIME.)
