I have a long history with soap operas. My entire life, really, seeing as my mother named me after a soap opera character. As a little girl I would sit in the floor of the den and help fold laundry while watching my namesake on the screen. It was very exciting in 1987 when you had never met anyone else named Kayla, ever.
The television of my adolescence was taken over by Topanga and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. And it still would be, if those two would get themselves back on air STAT. (Seriously, what are you even DOING to me, JTT?!) And Zenon. I sort of loved Zenon. And then the girl who played Zenon was on Days of Our Lives so I started watching that and then some of those actors moved to One Life To Live so I started watching that and that, y’all, is the story of how I get to give away a full year’s subscription to Hulu Plus to one of my readers today. It’s the circle of life. It moves us all.

Seriously, one day your mom is naming you after a soap opera character and twenty-odd years later you’re writing about soap operas on your blog and making comparison pictures like this little gem:
I know you’re thinking to yourself “Self! One Life To Life went off the air!” and it did but now it is back with new episodes on Hulu. See how nicely that works out for everyone? Or for people like me, who don’t have cable but instead just stream their favorite shows on Hulu. Hulu.com is totally free and lets you watch the latest episodes on your computer. I think we can all see why I am a fan, right?
When my mother moved in with us and discovered that we didn’t have cable she was like “HOW WILL I WATCH MY SOAPS?!” and I was all “Mother. Seriously. Have you never heard of Hulu?” Except that actually she hadn’t and she was very excited about all the free television soap operas.
(Or you can watch with the Hulu Plus subscription service which is $7.99 per month and allows you to watch all episodes as well as a bunch of other shows on your iPad, or your husband’s Xbox, etc. You can try it out free for a week here!)
The new half hour episodes of One Life To Live and All My Children will air weekdays on Hulu starting on April 29 so mark your calendars if you’re a Zenon Maxie fan like me. Or an Erica Kane fan.
One lucky reader will receive a year’s subscription to Hulu Plus and one grand prize winner will receive a Roku box! To be entered to win, leave a comment below telling me which characters do you miss the most from the old show
Obviously I want to see Farah Fath as Gigi. For real Gigi, not her-sister-Stacey-who-had-plastic-surgery-to-look-just-like-Gigi-Gigi. I figure that they could just bring her back as their long-lost-triplet-sister Tracey. You’re welcome for that idea, One Life To Live 😉
