I went to the post office and the behavior of an adult woman put me all in a tizzy. I was perched on the corner of the bed this morning recounting the episode for Jeff while he shaved and he said "this has got you all worked up, doesn't it?" And it does. It really does. Here's the story:
Setting: The Post Office
Characters: Postmistress and Rude Lady
Rude Lady told the postmistress that her mailbox key wasn't working and she needed the mail from box 28. The postmistress brings it to her. Rude Lady says "You had better fix my key now." To which the postmistress politely asks her if she has another key they can try. Rude Lady responded by THROWING HER MAIL AT THE POSTMISTRESS.
At this point they bring out someone else, determine that the problem is that the Rude Lady's mailbox is actually number 38 and her keys work just fine in the correct box, and ask her to leave the main office.
Three weeks ago I was at Dunkin Donuts (don't judge me, I like a donut hole or two or seven) when a woman started making faces and banging on the drive-thru window. The girl helping me was all of seventeen and she went over to the window. "You forgot my napkins!" the woman screamed at her. So the girl took a handful of napkins and handed them to her. Apparently not satisfied, the woman screamed "I don't need that many!" threw the rest of the napkins at the girl and sped off.
In the course of less than a month, I have witnessed two adult women throw things at the people serving them.
What is wrong with people? Why would you throw something at the high school girl working at Dunkin Donuts over NAPKINS? Why would you throw something at anyone, period? Not to mention they were completely rude, demanding, and disrespectful to begin with. You know what the world needs? More people like Carl.
Kindness. Gentleness. Peace. Love. Self-Control.
What's the craziest encounter you've witnessed?
