In honor of #tbt (otherwise known as “throwback thursday”) I’ll be reposting some older posts from my archives on, you guessed it, Thursdays over the next couple of months. This is so that I can free up some writing time to work on my book and also just because it’s fun for me to re-visit posts like this one from my newlywed days.
(In unrelated news, if you wanted to click here to vote for me as a Top 25 Southern Mom Blogger I’d totally appreciate it. Also, I won’t ask you again on account of how apparently voting ends today, only I just found out that I was nominated yesterday. Professional.)

I’m getting married in FOUR days, y’all. Four days, nineteen hours, six minutes, and eleven seconds.
Friday I brought my cordless phone over to the apartment and plugged it in to charge. My mother and sister were over doing some wedding stuff with me. “Why does the phone keep beeping like that?” my mother asked. “Because mother, it is charging. Duh.” I answered.
Yesterday Jeff asked…
J: “Why the heck does the phone keep beeping?”
KA: sigh. “It’s charging.”
J: “It takes that long to charge?”
KA: “Yeah, I think it takes like 24 hours or something”
Jeff walks over and picks up the phone. Looks at it. Flips it over. Opens it.
J: “Kayla, do you know why this phone is beeping? It is beeping because there is no battery in it.”
KA: “Oh, that’s right.”
J: “You knew there wasn’t a battery in it?”
KA: “Well, now I remember about the battery.”
J: “So where is it?”
KA: “Oh, well I got mad once and threw the phone against the wall and it broke and I just stuck it in a drawer. And then later I cleaned out that drawer and couldn’t remember what the battery went to and threw it away. But now that I see that phone with no battery I remember about the time I threw that battery away and realize that it must have been the battery to that phone.”
J: “So this phone is pretty much useless to us.”
KA: “Um, yeah. Do you have a phone?”
J: ” Do you promise not to throw anymore phones at the wall?”
KA: “Yes.”
J: “Then yes, I have a phone.”
Later on we were on our three hundredth and sixty ninth attempt at hanging curtains when I asked Jeff to hand me the drill. He reached down and unplugged it from the wall and then handed it to me.
KA: “Why did you unplug it? Do you not trust me with the drill?”
J: “Um no.”
A few minutes later he asked for the hook for the curtains that I had just been holding.
KA: “Um, it’s here somewhere.”
J: “You just had it like two seconds ago.”
KA: “I know. I am not quite sure where it went though.”
J: “How did you lose it in two seconds? I never even saw you move!”
KA: “Here it is! Remember when your mom called and I answered the phone? I took it with me.”
J: “Why?”
KA: “So I wouldn’t lose it, obviously.”
J: “Life with you is always an adventure sweetie.”
Five minutes later..
J: “Kayla, did you see where I put the screwdriver?”
KA: “Nope. But maybe it’s in the kitchen.”
J: “Why would it be in the kitchen?”
KA: “Because you went into the kitchen to check the spaghetti.”
J: “Yes but I’m not you. I don’t just carry random objects around with me.”
KA: “Okay, but if I were your screwdriver, I’d be in the kitchen.”
Jeff walks into the kitchen. Walks out with said screwdriver.
J: “It was next to the spaghetti.”
