A few days ago I was sitting down here and wanted to open all the windows while I was working. But when I went to open said window, there to my great horror, was a spider. On the inside of the screen. If I opened the window, I would have to deal with that spider. And it was not a little spider. It was large. And it was orange.
I decided that instead, I would go sit up on my in laws screened in porch. That way I could still feel the nice breeze without worrying about any eight legged creatures. When I got up there, I noticed that some wasps managed to get themselves trapped inside the screened in porch and were frantically buzzing around trying to find their way out.
I surveyed the situation for a minute and then settled into the little couch. I would rather sit in a room filled with wasps than sit 10 feet away from one spider.
What does this say about me, I wondered?
But it got even better.
Then some strange man started walking around in the backyard. He couldn't see me because the porch was above him, but I could see him. He wandered back into the woods and then came back up and disappeared under the deck.
My mind raced to the episode of Paranormal I watched the night before. Paranormal has nothing to do with strange men being in your backyard but it convinced me that he was trying to break into the house, so I raced downstairs and locked the basement door. Then I let the dogs out, because if anyone was going to try and get me I think that the two chihuahuas that my in laws own would totally scare them off. I am a very rational person.
A few minutes later I see the man out front. With his landscaping crew.
Oh.
A couple of hours later I go back downstairs to finish some things up. Then I realize it's time to feed the dogs. So I walk upstairs.
And the door is locked.
That's right.
I locked the basement door earlier.
And my in laws have one of those doors that let you open it from the upstairs but it stays locked on the other side.
WHO EVEN MAKES THAT SORT OF DOOR? I mean, doesn't that just say "please lock yourself in the basement?"
I do not blame myself for locking myself in the basement. I blame the maker of the door.
