|our family uses Netflix in our daily lives so I am happy to share my opinion in this sponsored campaign from Netflix, complete with photos of my kid watching Super Why |
So, we don’t have cable. I think I’ve ment>ioned that like, a bazillion times. We do have Netflix though, which is central to a large percentage of our date nights. We pop some popcorn on the stove (Tip: use coconut oil and your popcorn will taste amazing.) and then we take turns picking a movie to curl up on the couch and watch.
Last time was my choice and I picked Silver Linings Playbook on account of how everyone on facebook said how it was totally amazing. Spoiler Alert: everyone on facebook lied. That movie was terrible.
Outside of that we typically use Netflix for its dedicated kid’s section. Scarlette is very excited about screen time and spends all day saying “HEY! I WATCH DA TV? I WATCH DA ALBA PIG?” because she is obsessed with the Super Why. She no longer wants me to sing her a lullaby at night. She literally asks me to sing her the Super Why theme song.
This is what Scarlette looks like when she is watching tv:
We really limit Scarlette’s screen time and we’re pretty particular about what she watches. She is going to be so annoyed by us when she gets older. I appreciate that show information and reviews are provided for us so we can look into what she watches. Right now, she’s pretty limited to Sesame Street (the child loves Elmo with a fierce passion) or Super Why.
I try to save screen time for the afternoon, when I’m ready for a little “mommy break” and she gets to watch a show while I do some work or eat icing directly from the can, depending on what kind of day it has been. It’s nice that we can stream it on our different devices so that if I need to move from room to room while she’s watching and I’m cleaning, I can just take her and her show along with me.
When she’s a little bit older I’d love to make Friday nights our “Family Movie Night” like my friend Tiff does. Right now we make our own pizzas and I think it would be fun to have a little picnic + movie night with her once she is big enough to sit still through an entire movie. I know they have family friendly shows and movies for older kids too so it should grow well with our family.
Netflix wants me to ask y’all: What are you watching on TV with your family? Netflix has family favorites from Disney, Disney Jr., Hasbro, Cartoon Network and Dreamworks that are available to stream anytime, anywhere.
(And streaming is easier than you think! Download the free app on your iPad, click on the Netflix app on any gaming device, go to the website on your computer – and you’re in business. Check it out here!)
