I’m in complete denial that my baby is going to be one in a couple of months so now is probably a good time to share his adventure themed nursery!
Remember when I tried really hard to persuade my husband into a woodland themed nursery for our daughter and he totally vetoed it? (If you don’t remember that hilarious story, you should read my book.) Turns out, having a surprise second baby and spending your entire pregnancy on bedrest means you get to have whatever kind of nursery you want for baby number two.
I love the movie UP and so I thought it would be sweet to do a nursery inspired by Carl and Ellie’s Adventure Book. So here is Ridley’s Outdoors Adventure Themed Room!
(I’ll link everything shown at the end of the post. Some affiliate links included because this baby keeps growing and needing things like “clothes that fit” and stuff.)
My best friend hand painted the canvas above his bed! She surprised me with it after seeing something similar that I had pinned on Pinterest. It is my favorite thing in his room.
After a debate between grey and teal, we went with this crib in teal because I loved the color against the grey walls and because it is short, which is important because I am very, very short and always had a hard time getting Scarlette out of her crib once it was lowered. His cute crib sheets say “I love you” because I am a sucker for script on fabric. We already had the red Land of Nod rocketship that we won (coughcoughstole) at a party.
And I fell in love with this nature trail quilt from Land of Nod so that was my mother’s gift to him. Ridley feels very enthusiastic about it.(Yes I did extend our outdoorsy theme to most of my baby’s wardrobe. I am very passionate about a good theme, y’all.)
This room was already grey with a dark grey accent wall and these teal polka dot curtains from Pottery Barn because it used to be my office. So I tried to work with things I already had in here, even though they were a bit girly, on account of how having a high-ri$k pregnancy meant my budget for this room was exactly one hundred dollars.
The bookshelf is from Target, the lantern on top is from our wedding, the distressed R was a gift from my grandmother, the starburst mirror and the letterpress monogram are both from DaySpring. The striped bins are from Land of Nod, we have the same ones in Scarlette’s room and they are my absolute favorite for corralling toys. My motto is “I don’t care what bin it is in as long as it is IN A BIN AND NOT ON THE FLOOR.” Probably Land of Nod should rename them that. I am very good at marketing.
(Also, Land of Nod is kind of pricey so I usually ask for things from there for the kids Christmas. You have a couple of years before the kids catch on to that strategy is what I’m saying.)
A few things that got passed down from Scarlette to Ridley are these BabyLit board books, blocks, and wooden xylophone. I’m a big fan of wooden toys since Scarlette’s held up for five years between kids so we added this Melissa and Doug stacker and this wooden schoolbus pull-toy just for cuteness and color. Turns out Ridley is obsessed with that schoolbus.
We picked up the Koppang dresser and metal trashcan (which I line with this wetbag and use for cloth diapers) at IKEA. The lamp, which I already had, and changing pad are from Target and my friend Bre had everyone make this cute hot air baloon art using their fingerprints at my baby shower!
The adventure awaits sign was handpainted by my friend Laurel, of Anchor & Gail Designs. Fun fact: Laurel was the marketing manager for my book and you can currently see her artwork displayed in LifeWay stores. I love that Ridley’s room has so many pieces from my favorite people in it.
This is my absolute favorite robe for nursing. I took it to the hospital with me when we delivered because hospital gowns are the worst (and also, this is what happened the last time someone tried to make me wear a hospital gown.) I typically keep it next to my chair and actually wear it but my photographer draped it over me for this picture on account of modesty.
The chair was a hand-me-down from my sister and this cable knit & lambswool striped baby blanket is my favorite ever and I might be guilty of frequently stealing it from my infant. Don’t judge me.
I changed my Katie Daisy print from this one to this one that says “Go Play Outdoors.” The Act Justly & Love Mercy print is from Mercy House Global (and the proceeds go to Mercy House so you should get one!) and I hung it up with a skirt hanger because PRO TIP: those are much cheaper than the picture hangers that look like hangers.
The adventure wall art, adventure book, and pillow are from Altar’d State (my mom went shopping and came home with like, sixteen adventure themed decor items one day, lol! Grandma perk!)
Ridley loves his room. Or at least, I am assuming that he does because he looks pleased in these pictures and also he is a baby so making assumptions about his emotions is basically like, 90% of my job as his mother. And another 5% is showing off cute pictures of him that have absolutely nothing to do with this post but that I think are adorable.
So that’s our adventure themed nursery! It was such a joy to put this room together for this little guy. I never thought I’d be decorating a nursery again (coughcoughsurprisebaby) and so I loved every bit of it. I hope you love it as much as we do.
