Ridley turned eight months old and I am wondering if, like his sister, he is going to skip crawling entirely. I am wondering that because while he has yet to crawl, this morning he grabbed on to his new activity center and then just STOOD THERE while clinging on to the little tree toy on top.
And then I was all, “Let’s not rush the mobility, little dude. Maybe first let’s try something like SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT before Mommy has to chase you all around the house.”
Which is totally a second child syndrome thing because I was trying to get Scarlette to crawl when she was basically still a fetus. I was all, “You know what would be fun to do with my five month old? FLASH CARDS!”
Not that I haven’t also done flash cards with Ridley, it’s just that I did not so much spend hours meticulously showing him pictures of animals as walked in and found him chewing on a stack of sight word flash cards that Scarlette slipped through the bars of his crib.
So you know, same thing. He’s probably learning by osmosis.
Although he is a genius because he just recently learned to sit up by himself, which is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. (It might be the hat. My baby is so cute in hats.)
We’re in a bit of A Stage over here that involves a lot of jealousy about new things for the baby so I was pleasantly surprised to see how sweetly Scarlette introduced her brother to his new play center. And by “pleasantly surprised” I mean, “weepy and slightly shrill” as evidenced by this video:
Oribel offered to send us their new PortaPlay™ Convertible Activity Center and I said, “YES PLEASE” because I legit had one on Ridley’s Christmas list this year. Because while he can’t crawl, he CAN scoot himself backwards. And also roll across the room faster than you can move the dog’s bed that he really, really wants despite the fact that sleeping in his own bed is apparently traumatic.
So I needed a place to keep this baby stationary is what I’m saying.
And I really love this one because it folds flat, so it was super easy to throw in my car and take along with me to my mother’s house this past weekend.
But mostly I love it because I am a big fan of multi-purpose children’s products and the PortaPlay Convertible Activity Center CONVERTS to a play table! The toys and seat come off and it has a topper that fits over the whole thing to make a smooth surface. And then you can add the accompanying stools and art paper roll dispenser to make it into an activity table!
So I am really thrilled to get a good shelf life out of this and obviously Ridley is too, and you know that he is not easily impressed 😉
If you’re looking for a baby gift this Christmas, the PortaPlay is available at Amazon.com and other online retailers for approximately $149.99 (to learn more, check out this video) and if the parents are anything like me, they will be elated to open this.
(I mean, so will the baby. Definitely this is for the baby and not just a total sanity saver for me.)
Oh and if you were thinking to yourself, “Self, Ridley at 8 months looks exactly like Scarlette did” you would be correct. They are totally twinning. I don’t know if you know this but I make very cute babies.
