My baby started doing this new thing where he nods at me. If I do something that he likes, he will give me a small sliver of a smile, raise his eyebrows, and nod his head decidedly up and down. It is the cutest thing that I have ever seen and I am obsessed with it. So obviously I just keep doing things he likes so that he will nod at me. It’s like a Pavlovian experiment over here.
He will not, however, say Mama. Do you want to know what he will say? Dada. That’s right. It’s Dada all day long over here, despite the fact that I am the one he likes to snuggle with all night long. The baby, I mean, not my husband. Although come to think of it, that is how we ended up with two kids.
Ridley still isn’t sleeping through the night but I can’t even be mad about that because A) he is so cute and B) our twice nightly nursing sessions have created space in my life for watching The Crown on Netflix and that is my other new obsession. I am thankful for Netflix, y’all.
(Until, that is, the Hallmark channel starts airing all of it’s quirky Christmas programming. Then I am ALL HOLIDAY MOVIES, ALL THE TIME. My secret dream in life is to be in a Hallmark channel Christmas movie. I don’t even want to act in it, I just want to stand on the set and let it fake snow on me.)
This is what Ridley’s bed that he doesn’t sleep in looks like. What color crib skirt should I go with? I’ve been debating between white, navy, and gray. Please decorate my house for me, I am too sleep deprived to be trusted with important decisions like this.
I love this picture because it’s such an accurate snapshot of my life: I’m all enthralled by the fact that I had another baby, the baby is indifferent to everything, and Scarlette is running around in too-small pajamas while pretending to be a pirate. AS YOU DO.
