I don’t ever get asked to bring actual food to our Thanksgiving celebrations on account of how that one time I tried to make the Christmas ham and thought that when the recipe called for cinnamon and cloves it meant “garlic cloves.” It was just as bad as you’re thinking. But I really love entertaining and baking so when Kraft’s Cooking Up Good asked me if I wanted to share my Thanksgiving celebration decor and create a fun way to incorporate Mrs. Smith’s Pie and Cool Whip into our dessert plans, I was totally game.
I decided to make a layered caramel apple pie in a mini mason jar because I’m very southern like that.
I’m fairly simplistic when it comes to both seasonal decorating and baking. I usually print out a cute, seasonally appropriate printable and arrange my decorations around that because it’s an easy and inexpensive centerpiece (you can download that one here.)
My holiday decorating MO is to stick to a monochromatic seasonal color theme. So I just pulled together a few brown, orange and yellow themed things that I had around the house, like that letter T, or some old books, coffee canisters, etc. and paired them with some seasonal decor that I’ve collected from clearance end caps over the years. I used the burlap banner for Halloween and then just layered a Thanksgiving banner that I picked up in the dollar bin over that.
I just group everything together in one spot, in this case on the buffet where the coffee maker sits to make a festive little coffee bar. It’s all just a bit of odds and ends but collectively it looks like a cute holiday tablescape.
To make the mini apple pies, I just baked the Mrs. Smith’s Dutch Apple Pie and then drizzled caramel sauce into the little jar (sometimes called quilted jelly jars.) Then I dipped out the pie into the jar, then added a layer of Cool Whip, then another layer of pie and a dollop of Cool Whip on top, with a bit of caramel drizzled over the whole thing.
You could also make your own pie but if you’re short on time, this tasted great and made for a really cute presentation of pie. A little chalkboard label flag on the top was just for extra cute.

Also, the Cool Whip is literally right next to the pies in the frozen section. Almost as if they knew they would work well paired together. Well played, Walmart. Well played.
