A little over a year ago my friend Jessica sent me the idea for a book she was developing and wanted to know what I thought. And I said “JESS. YOU ARE THE PERFECT PERSON TO WRITE THIS BOOK.”
Because seriously, if there is anyone who I would like to emulate in terms of pursuing their passions while well stewarding their time it would be Jess.
(And also Taylor Swift.)
Honestly, I don’t know anyone that does more than Jess. I mean, she works full-time outside the home. She has three kids and a husband. She runs The Mom Creative and writes for several other places. She scrapbooks. She always makes time for her friends; if I have something big going on, one of the first people to text me is Jess. And she does everything with her whole heart, which is probably my favorite thing about her, the way she pursues a life she is passionate about and passes that enthusiasm on to others.
Her new book is called The Fringe Hours: Making Time for You and I am so proud and honored to introduce you to it today.
So this is my The Fringe Hours Book Review!
My favorite thing that Jess says about the book is that it is not a book about doing more but about empowering women to do more for themselves.
My favorite thing about the book is that it is full of tangible suggestions and solutions to everyday problems that leave women feeling overwhelmed. It also has space to reflect and take notes to identify how you can apply some of the principals to your unique situation.
Here is how I spend some of my Fringe Hours, by the way:
I read my books in the bathtub. I also watch Parks and Rec on my kindle in the bathtub. And sometimes I write blog posts in the bathtub, which I realize is probably a little bit TMI. But that door locks, y’all. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
(I wrote this blog post sitting at my desk. Fully clothed. Just in case you were wondering.)
Jess also has a beautiful line of journals and postcards at DaySpring – I love the postcards because it always makes my day when a friend drops a sweet note in the mail for me and these are so cute that they make me want to do the same.
And because after you send your friend a cute postcard with a sweet little note on the back, you can hang it up as decoration in your office because it is the perfect size for your bulletin board, which is super cute even if you can’t focus your camera to show it off on the internet.
The Fringe Hours: Making Time For You releases today and I am going to suggest that the three and a half men who read this blog buy a copy of this book for their wives/girlfriends. This is an excellent suggestion and you should totally take my advice because your wife will probably definitely make out with you in return.
But it’s also an excellent gift for you because, as Bridgid Schulte says “The Fringe Hours is like one gigantic permission slip to carve out some space in your day for the things that give you joy and feed your soul.”
Congrats Jess! I’m so proud of what you have accomplished with this book.
Disclosure: I received a copy of The Fringe Hours to review. Then I bought a copy of the book because support your friends who write books and stuff. All opinions are my own and I admit they might be slightly biased because I love Jessica but if I didn’t actually like her book then I would not have dedicated an entire post because these things take a long time to write in said #fringehours so there’s that.
