They smell like bug spray.
Seriously, every single time I open the door to my office I am all “WHY DOES IT SMELL LIKE BUG REPELLENT IN HERE?!”
And then I catch sight of the beautiful bunch of flowers I bought myself for my birthday on account of how they looked so pretty in everyone else’s photos on my instagram feed and I am all “OH RIGHT. PEONIES.”
I remember that back when I was getting married and was slightly obsessed with buying wedding magazines, I really wanted peonies in my bridal bouquet. Except that I got married three days before Christmas and it turns out that shipping in out of season peonies from Central America is more than a little expensive. So instead I chose to feed my guests dinner. And now I am thinking that I am really glad that I did not spend my wedding day carrying around a bouquet that gave off the distinct scent of DEET.
This will likely not stop me from buying another bouquet of peonies because they are only $5 at Trader Joes.
I’m supposed to be writing Very Important Things for my book at the moment and instead this post is happening. Because I’m staring at a blank screen and peonies. But be honest: they totally smell like bug spray, right?
(Also, in case you were wondering, my wedding bouquet looked like this. Gerber Daisies > Peonies.)
