Quintessential Mommy Blogger Post: Yes, I did see that dress at Old Navy and buy it specifically because I knew I could take some Now & Then pictures.
Mortifying Moment Of The Week: I took Scarlette with me to Trader Joe’s this week. I let her push her own tiny buggy through the store, which she filled with items from low shelves that I pointed out to her. She was being such a good helper and people kept stopping us to remark on what a sweet girl she was. In person Scarlette is very small and looks much younger than her age so I think it seemed really impressive to people that this tiny little toddler was navigating the buggy around the store with such dexterity. I think this because people kept asking me how old she was and when I remarked that she was almost three they acted all taken aback and said things like “Oh she’s so little!”
Then we stepped into line and Scarlette helpfully unloaded all of her items onto the little platform and then walked over to stand next to me. I was so proud of her good behavior and was in the process of handing her the stickers the cashier passed to me when she yelled “HEY! WHAT’S DAT?!” and then proceeded to PAT THE BEHIND OF THE WOMAN NEXT TO US.
And then I stammered “Scarlette, we do not touch other people’s bottoms” and apologized profusely to the woman who’s bottom my child had just swatted. The good news is, Scarlette’s antics give me unending material to write about, y’all.
Potty Talk (Also Mortifying): If you are the sort of person who needs validation in your life, I highly recommend potty training a toddler. I get cheered on for the most basic of bodily functions, y’all. And apparently I have gotten so used to the accolades that when I went to the conference last month, I sat for a minute in the silence of the stall and thought to myself “Self, this is slightly disappointing.”
That was remedied this past week at Target, when I heard the person in the stall next to me giggling. I am assuming it was in response to how enthusiastically Scarlette was yelling “GOOD JOB MOMMY! DAT A GOOD JOB! I SHO PWOUD OF YOU FOR GOIN TINKLE IN DA POTTY! HEEYUR, WET ME HELP WIPE DAT BOTTOM!”
Stuff Scarlette Said: I was making breakfast when Scarlette told me that she didn’t want any eggs. I was already sort of possibly maybe having a small breakdown over the fact that she was about to turn three years old and WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE and I’M NOT HAVING ANY MORE BABIES and what not when I asked her why she didn’t want eggs.
And she answered “Well Mommy, eggsh jusht don’t taste dat yummy to me eenymore.”
And I was all “STOP IT WITH ALL THE ARTICULATING!”

Sweet Holiday Deal: I get our Christmas cards every year from Minted. I love them because their quality is amazing (everyone always asks me where I get our cards done) and because they support independent designers. Right now Minted has a $25 off + free shipping coupon with code JOY25FS! This year they introduced postcard Christmas cards, which is what I am doing because postcard postage cost way less than regular postage!
So with the postage savings + the coupon code & shipping on the cards and the fact that I have a little bit of referral credit*, I’ll be able to do our Christmas cards without breaking the bank this year. The coupon code is only good until 11/11 so I am going to coerce someone into taking a family photo at Scarlette’s party this weekend so I can order ours before it ends.
(*If you go to “My Account” in your Minted account menu, you’ll see a personal referral link that you can share on your social media to earn $25 in referral credit if someone uses your link! I’m using mine here because I would love to take “Christmas Cards” out of December’s budget ;))
