So since Scarlette has the chicken pox I did not have time to put together my planned What I Wore Wednesday post. I mean, I guess I could have but a post full of me wearing leggings and my husband’s high school basketball t-shirt half covered in calamine lotion is hardly stylish. But back in June I introduced my friend Tiffany of Stuff Parents Need to Stitch Fix so I asked her if she’d like to show off her latest box because I thought it might be fun for y’all to see pictures of someone other than me for a change! As a thanks to her for filling in for me, her referral link is used in this post and as always, feel free to leave your own in the comments!
Special thanks to Kayla for giving me front and center space on the blog! Since KaylaAimee.com is one of the most stylish blogs I read, I knew that I needed to bring you some really fun fashion today, and thanks to my new true love, Stitch Fix, I have some great finds to show off!
Now, if you haven’t treated yourself to a Stitch Fix yet, I need to take a moment to talk with you, woman to woman. Lean in a little closer. Listening? ‘K, here goes.
This is your wardrobe’s destiny. Don’t overthink it and keep buying tons and tons of “just ok” stuff like I know you are currently doing. Your closet will thank you for a wardrobe that is leaner and more fierce. Your worn out washing machine will thank you. You will look like a million bucks. Not trying to put pressure on you or anything but OHMYGOSHYOUNEEDTOJUSTDOITNOW!
Ok, glad we had that little chat. I loved my first Stitch Fix experience so much that I ordered my second fix two weeks later! I actually had a special occasion coming up with some pretty specific wardrobe needs, so I decided to let my stylist do all the searching for me.
Don’t you love how that sounds? “My stylist.” A girl could get used to that.
So anyway, last week I was in NYC filming some videos for my super fun job as a Reynolds Real Mom. I was instructed to bring 5 tops that were “seasonless, bright, and free of stripes and patterns.” Sounds easy enough until you realize that “seasonless” is hard to shop for in late July (when I was looking for these clothes) and that stripes and patterns are ALL THE RAGE. Plain is SO not in right now! Yikes. The last time I had to shop for one of these shoots I really and truly spent six hours looking for something that fit the bill and wouldn’t wipe out my savings account. After all that effort, I came away with just two options.
Yeah, so that personal stylist thing was looking pretty darn good!
I gave a list of my special styling needs to Stitch Fix and let them do the heavy lifting. Here’s what they sent!
First, let’s get the pieces that didn’t make the cut out of the way. I was sent a Colibri Sheer Tab-Sleeve Blouse from Fun2Fun. It retailed for $48. The color was fabulous (green is one of my favs) and I think I looked rather smart in it. But it is definitely a piece that looks best fully tucked in, and that just wasn’t the look I was going for. Didn’t want to look like I was going into a board room instead of a kitchen for my videos. Also, the “unique” collar was lost on me.
The other piece that went back to Stitch Fix was the Sadie Cowl Neck Jersey Tank by Tart. When I reviewed my “fashion shoot” photos after I sent everything back, I had the slightest twinge of regret about returning this one. The color is very flattering (in my evidently “not so humble” opinion) and the design really is quite neat. It sort of does this swooping along the front and in the back. The material is VERY soft and comfortable. But at the end of the day, it was still very casual and would need some type of blazer over it to work on camera. Oh yeah, and it was $88. For that price I’m going to need some sleeves. Or some sparkles. Or some sparkly sleeves. This is why I need a personal stylist.
(KA SAYS: This makes me laugh because I love her rejects! I really like that tab-sleeve blouse and the cowl neck top is on that Stitch Fix sent me c/o and I wear it all the time. This is why I thought it would be fun for someone else to share their box!)
Now let’s look at the big winners!
First up, check out my favorite Stitch Fix piece of all time. This is the Scout Cut-Out Trim Front Tie Blouse from C. Luce. It is a reasonable $48, and it just screams Tiffany. The color is perfect. The detailing is so fun. I can’t help but smile when I wear this piece! I’ve paired with some pink topsiders (that are dirty from getting worn constantly) and some dark jeans. It would also look smashing with white pants, I think.
I also kept the Ruthie Cross-Front Side Ruched Top. I thought it was a smidge on the boring side, but to be fair, I kind of asked for boring clothes, didn’t I? The color was nice and bright. The fit was flattering. And I could see this top being a workhorse in my closet, easily being dressed up or down by pairing it with skirts (the one I’m wearing is from Shabby Apple) or jeans or big chunky jewelry or even something more delicate. I think it can help me achieve a lot of different looks, and that makes it a worthwhile addition to the wardrobe. It was also $48.
Finally, we have the Rylie Crossfront Sheer Hi-Lo Blouse. Can you guess the price? That’s right, $48! Not sure why everything cost that magic number this go round (except the crazy expensive tank top!). The color doesn’t qualify as “bright” so at first I thought I might send it back. And then I realized that this was another piece I just felt like myself in. It’s always a good thing to have clothes that make you feel as comfortable and as “you” as your yoga pants and Old Navy tees, but that look really sharp on you (I’ve seen myself in the mirror in my yoga pants…NOT sharp).
Overall, I think my stylist (Emily) really did a great job! I’ll be ordering another fix in a month or so when it is time to get serious about fall. And I hope that box #3 might be the magic one where everything works and I get to keep the whole thing (and take advantage of the 25% discount you get when you buy all 5 pieces).
Itching for your fix? Go get it, girl!
You can find Tiffany shootin’ the breeze over at Stuff Parents Need, where she focuses on easing the chaos of life with little ones, one find at a time. Come on over and pull up a chair. Bring your iced coffee, because that’s how we roll over there!
